It does make a difference. You don't need to go crazy on the camera or lens. We went with the basic camera kit with a 18-50mm lens and a 100-300mm lens that you see advertised all the time. Compared to the phone or a point & shoot that is huge step up.

Great photo Jared. Route 66 Lumberjack is one of my favorite soaps. It just works and I love the scent.

A new week brings up a new brush and soap. Since the soap for the week is Mystic Water Raspberry Lemon used earlier this month, there is no need for an introduction. The brush for the week is a Shavemac D01 Silvertip. The knot measures 24mm x 48mm and is very dense. It doesn't quite have the backbone or the softness of the D01 2 band used earlier this month. When face lathering there is still a good bit of scritch. If you are looking for a cloud like feeling this is not the brush or knot for you.

The little Shavemac made short work of loading and lathering the MW Raspberry Lemon. Without the shim, the 1912 was a much smoother shaver than yesterday. However, I find both Damaskeene razors to be just as efficient and much smoother. With this is mind, I will not be sending the 1912 to Delta Echo. Guess I saved myself some money. A splash of F&C Capri and I am ready for the day with my Mom and family. I hope everyone has a blessed Sunday.

    Sunday shave:

First shave after being refreshed on a Shapton glass 16k, Hart Steel 7/8. The edge was very smooth and adequately sharp. Four passes, no blood and some feedback from the alum but a very smooth face.

If you want to check out cameras and features offered at different price points, I recommend Ken Rockwell's website. You can poke around on his website for 20 minutes and have a pretty good idea of what you might want. I've used his general recommendations for several years and have been happy with his advice.

I love the look of that brush. I know the trend has really gone to two bands in the last couple of years, but there is just something classic about the look of a three band.

Have a nice day with your mom.

I made the right decision with the Russian Leather this morning. Feels nice and comfy for a chilly day like today. I'm saving the rest for my "NB18 Blitz #2.". I want a leather shave soap and have my eyes set on a particular brand. But the TSD Splash/Russian Leather was the way to go today. I don't mean to brag, but I guess I did anyway..chuk yuk yuk yuk.

May 14 (Sunday ) - SE for Sunday

Gem Featherweight / Gem PTFE ( unknown)
Chinese hardwood with Maggards 24mm plissoft knot
Red Green Duct Tape Special frankensoap
Alum and Supply Provision Juniper Post Shave Balm. (now called Sierra Ridge)

I decided to do an SE Sunday, so I grabbed the one razor sitting with a blade in it. I have no idea how many shaves are on the blade. The frankensoap was already on deck of course, and the Chinese brush caught my eye so I went with it. When I thought I needed a balm at the end of the shave, the Juniper was sitting in the front row of bottles. A careful and thoughtful pairing of equipment pieces and also of product scents is of paramount importance when shaving. :)

The Gem gave me a good shave today. One diagonal pass everywhere followed by a second ATG pass on my neck brought a very near BBS. It also made the alum feel rather sparky today, so I added an aftershave balm to the routine. The SP Juniper not only soothed the low burn, it also brought a nice warm outdoor scent into what looks like it is shaping up into a dreary, grey, rainy, chilly day.

    Have a blessed Sunday, everybody!

Thank you Jared. I like the looks of 3 bands as well. This little brush really packs a punch. I bought it off The Nook from a guy that couldn't take the scritch and backbone. The tips have gotten softer after 50 uses but it's still an intense little brush.

Now that you have a few shaves on it, how do you like that razor?

I'm liking it a lot. It's a little difficult to strop because of the handle shape, but it's a great shaver.
