Well, this morning's shave continued to provide a lot of learning as I broke out the Fatboy for it's first run. Dialed it in on 4, as Fatboys are supposed to shave almost identically to a Slim (which is my daily driver). It didn't. Very rough and chattery with the blade. After the first pass I decide to re-whip up the lather from the Klar Almond sample generously provided by @RyX, as I wasn't thrilled with the soap/water mix of the lather as seen in the photo above (sometimes getting that right with a bit of soap smashed on the bottom of the bowl can be tricky). OK, re-whipped with some more product, so now the lather is creamy, smooth, and perfect. , Started again. Pass 2 - same problem. Let me switch out the blade for Pass 3, it's about the third or fourth shave with the Gillette 7 oclock stainless (which I haven't loved, but has been more than adequate so far), so that's probably not it, right? WRONG. That was it. Pass 3 with a new Astra was smooth, silky and effortless, and shaved exactly like my Slim on 4. Either I got a bad blade that didn't shave great and got worse quickly, or this blade is only good for 2 or 3 shaves, or this is just not the blade for me. Only time will tell.

In other news, I think I like the slim just a tad better than the fat boy. A few more shaves will tell if it is because of familiarity or preference, but I really like the weight, balance and everything else about the slim. Also, I bought the fatboy on the bay not looking all shiny, figuring I could polish it out. I haven't tried to polish it yet, but I think the shine may be worn down well into the plating in some areas. I'll double check with a quick polish, but I'm pretty sure my Delta Echo dilemma is solved. I will probably end up sending the Fatboy out for cerakoting.

Final news - The vial of "test sample" from Captains Choice will be replaced by a full container of "beta sample A" of Captain's Choice 45th Parallel AS spalsh. Scott agreed to sell me some of what was left from the original test batch before the final product is developed and sold, and threw in a couple bonus samples for me. What a great guy. The test batch stuff is great, and I would anticipate the final product to be better. I'f you like cherry I'd definitely suggest trying the final product when it launches.

    Have a great Monday everyone!

No, the tree is gonna stay. It needs a little time to recover from being transplanted, by that time it will have bloomed, and she will be in love with it right where it is. It is in exactly the right spot, it just wasn't the tree she wanted there. Well I got news for you, it's staying.

May 15 - Spent some time in the Frozen Tundra

    Merkur 34C
    Rapira Swedish Stainless (day 1)
    Dark Chocolate (JR #148)
    DIY PSO
    Stirling Frozen Tundra
    Alum/Thayers/Nivea SPSB

I have been really liking Stirling's menthol, line. Frozen Tundra came up next in my samples. To me, Frozen Tundra has some earthy notes but for some reason I also smell Spearmint or some kind of mint or it is just the scent of menthol covering the other scents. In the sample puck, it smelled more earthy to me and less minty. Once whipped up, I think either the menthol or mint came out strong overpowering the other scents for me. Wonderful lather.

Tried the Rapira Swedish Stainless blade today. It was louder than the blades I prefer and I think it was not as sharp. It did glide easily so I would guess it is smooth but lacks in cutting ability. I did feel a bit more resistance. I was too busy on Sunday with taking the family to the Ringling Bros. Circus and having the family over for Mother's Day that I failed to shave yesterday. Today had 2 days of growth and my face was uniformly covered with fur.

No weepers or blood but it did take 4.5 passes to mow. I did 2 ATG passes(instead of the one) and a little touch up to get the BBS shave. I have doubts this blade will make it bast tomorrow. I am nice and smooth but the alum did sting slightly to moderately but quieted quickly. Will need to see how the blade responds to a single day's worth of growth.

Lots of Wintergreen and some pine or something similar. I have really come to enjoy the scent.

    May 15 (Monday) -

Rockwell 6s on plate #3 / PAL Gold Thin Hollow Ground carbon ( 10)
    Alluminati Envy White brush
Red Green Duct Tape Special frankensoap
Alum and Thayers Witch Hazel Astringent Aftershave

Everything back on focus today. With the Rockwell 6s backed down to plate #3 again, my shave was back to normal -- one diagonal or ATG pass for a good DFS result with no grumbles from the alum.

The PAL carbon blade was feeling a bit rough again today. It still feels sharp but no longer feels as smooth as it did. I think it is nearing the end of the line for me. I highly doubt it will last out this workweek.

Edit: It didn't. After thinking it over, I put the PAL in the blade bank today. I'm not going to spend two or three more days shaving with a rough blade just so I can say I got it to last "X" number of uses. My skin deserves better than that.
