$32.00 plus shipping means I won't be buying from shaving.ie If I wanted to spend $30+ on blades, I'd buy Feather.
I am a huge Voskhod fan and bought 2000 of them a few months ago for dirt cheap before the prices went through the roof, but I do agree if I had to spend $32.00 to get them now I would indeed buy Feather's. [EDIT] and / or Black Ninja's aka Gillette 7 O'Clock Black's
sorry NoahG Tried to throw some in the cart a few days ago at the top of cart it says not available for purchace. Just checked still says same. Black 7 o clock found on ebay and other places havent found a sampler with them in it yet. B
Well they're back @ razor blades and more now for their usual lower price, gonna pick up a pack and try 'em out. I do want to try the black Gillettes too(along with about 100 others)
Jeff, I haven't tried the Feathers yet, but I think I do I have 1 that someone sent me to try. In your above comment, does that mean you like Feathers better than the Voskhods? Being so new to DE shaving, I'm not seeing too much problem paying $30 for 100 Feathers, seeing how I was just paying over $20 for 5 Mach3 Turbos! However, if I can get good blades for half that price, I'm ALL for that! The high prices for the Mach3 is what brought me to this site in the first place.
I just received a complimentary 5-pack of Rapiras from Bullgoose with a recent order and, given your recommendation, am now even more anxious to try them. Have not tried voshkovs, though I have looked to add them to orders only to find they are not available.
No, I prefer Voskhod to Feather, but I paid a ridiculously low price for the Voskhod so I am sort of poisoned on paying more. If Feather and Voskhod are going to be selling for the same price, I would pick the Feather. If Jody can score a master case from Igor (4000 blades) the price point will be determined more by the cost of shipping than the cost of the blades themselves; it will cost more to ship the blades than what the blades cost.
If you're talking about a group buy on the Voskhods, I'd LOVE to get in on that one! I'm still not quite understanding your reasoning about the Voskhod/Feather preference. If you like the Voskhods better, then why wouldn't you buy them over the Feathers if they're the same price?
I paid .08¢ per blade for the Voskhod, delivered. I am not going to pay .50¢ for them, I don't care how great they are, and they are a great blade, my favorite blade even. I just cannot see any reason to pay more for them. I would feel the same way about Feather's had I bought 2000 Feather at .08¢ each; I would not pay .50¢ for them to restock. Since I have always had to pay .50¢ for Feather I am not adverse to paying that price, but it is also why I have never bought a lot of Feather's. In fact out of all the Feather's that I have now (15?) and all the Feather that I have used in the last year, I think I only actually paid for 10 of them, the rest were PIF'd to me in some form or fashion. Look at it this way; a 1968 Camaro SS 396 would have cost you about $4000.00 when new. It is a great car. I was given one for my 16th birthday and it cost $1200.00. I promptly totaled it a week later. Were I to replace that car today, it would easily cost five figures. Why? Because everybody wants one and therefore the cost is sky high and even if I had the cash, I would not buy one because it is only worth $1200.00 to me. Same thing with the Voskhod's Mang.
I concur wholeheartedly. The Voskhod is a great blade, but I would not pay $.50 a blade when I can get Astra SP for $.09 delivered or a whole number of excellent blades for around $.15 a piece.
I really like the Voskhod's but if they go for that much I will go back to 7 0' clock yellows as they are my 2nd favorite but need to try the blacks as well.
You won't be disappointed, Phil is now selling bulk of 1000, you just have to get past the first shave and you're set, after that they hook up very nicely.
I thought I'd resurrect this thread again and share some interesting findings I've had with this blade. It appears to get sharper as you use it, which would explain why the OP found it much less sharp than the feather to start. As that teflon coating wears off it it really a great blade and amazingly smooth!
Voskhod is the blade of choice for my 1971 Gillette Super Adjustable 109. My shave week runs Sunday to Friday. Sunday's shave is on a two day growth. 1st pass is WTG set on "9". 2nd pass XTG cheeks & chin, ATG neck on "7". 3rd pass is also "7" if needed. On Sunday there is usually a third pass. Mostly on the neck XTG. Weekday's same type of passes, 1st set on"8" 2 & 3 "6". Friday the blade goes into the blade bank.
