I've "used up" shaving soaps I didn't particularly love by using them as a pre-shave facial soap. That's always an option.

 

Great picture, Mark. The cactus flower is beautiful.

 

Additionally you can use less desirable soaps to defunk new brushes.

 

Keeping my focus on the Asylum RX has suddenly become easier... I found that the Feather Pro is just what this razor needs to perform to its full potential.

And finally on the 5th shave with the Asylum RX everything came together and I achieved a close yet very comfortable and irritation-free shave! And the reason was the Feather Pro. Definitely the Kai Mild with the Asylum don't pair very nice for me. But the Feather Pro was very nice with my skin, very sharp and efficient, and no need for touch ups after my third passage so no razor burn. Let's see if the Schick Proline performs as good next week.

Thank you for the update. It is amazing how much different blades effect the shave in artist club razors. I too prefer the Feather Pro blade. Please give us an update on the Schick Proline next week.

The Feather Pro is a great blade, works wonderfully with my Feather DX, Cobra and Asylum RX. Glad it worked for you too.

My experience starting DE shaving last fall mirrors yours quite a bit. I didn't make it through my 30 day rule without switching soaps. Same razor, same blade, rotated a few soaps in around week three. One thing though- I'd been using soaps/creams and a brush my last few years of cartridge shaving, so making the lather wasn't as much of a variable as it could have been.
Since January, I've focused on a razor a month. Even if you do start acquiring new tools, IMHO keeping to a 30 day focus with each razor will definitely improve your technique. Even if you buy a 'lot' or a bunch in the wild at once, just use them one at time. I rotated soaps and blades, but have used a single razor for each month...until this month when MAYhem and some Injectors have me bouncing around a bit.

Man, I should have asked for the ICED Sub-Zero TSD splah. The Sub-Zero is all right, but there are those days......well, it'll be worse in July and August of course. But let me say that regardless of the temperature of my face and neck, the TSD Splash still provides that nice fresh feel.

 

By the way, I think after this morning's shave, I may go on the hunt for a red tip. If anyone wants to lighten their collection by one good looking red tip, or trade out for a couple soaps, or other fabulous prizes during the Shavy prize tradeapalooza period, let me know. I also expect an unused Razorock Essential Lime tub to go in the prize box this afternoon when my B&M Limon arrives. Razorock soaps lather like a beast, but I just like stronger scents. So far B&M has delivered on this count. We'll see what happens...
