Vanilla sandalwood sounds interesting. Bay Rum and lime... not so much. :)

I'm the opposite, I don't like vanilla or sandalwood.

After polishing the handle on mine, I cleaned the polish off with alcohol and put a few coats of Acrylic Lacquer on it and it has stood up fine for a number of shaves so far. It keeps me from polishing it every so often.

    If it's acrylic, it isn't lacquer (/pedant)

The main materials out there right now are

Nitrocellulose lacquer(s) - this is what Gillette and others used for decades. Durable, but it WILL flush off in an ultrasonic cleaner, and scrubbing bubbles makes it run like water if it's worn.
Acrylic. Usually polyacrylics. Minwax makes a water based polyacrylic finish. It's not terribly flexible, so it's vulnerable to impact, apparently :)
Urethane(s). Usually polyurethanes, such as Defthane, etc. As far as I know, these can't be made 'solvent-free'.
Varnishes - variety of chemical compositions.
"waxes", which can be both waxes like S.C. Johnson's Paste Wax, to Renaissance Wax, which doesn't appear to be a wax at all.
Oils - just what it sounds like. many people clean and polish their table saw tables, then oil them to assist in not having wood binding.

(Edit - whoops. Forgot the original 'lac' -Shellac. )

All of them are available in a lot of different forms. Rattle cans, paint sprayer, dip cans, or paint on.

So, the polyacrylic on the head and most of the handle of mine is fine, but where it was damaged near the bottom of the handle, the corrosion is showing through.

I know, it's just what it's called, still solvent based. It's formulated to dry quicker and have better adhesion. Made primarily for automotive use, and I also wondered why it had "acrylic" on the name, even though it isn't. It is a pretty tough and durable finish, and it can be polished if needed, but it already has a high gloss finish to it.

I like the IK stuff. I use it mostly during the winter when I was some additional skin care.

Too bad it doesn't get much chatter.

Happy to say my Wheat State 5-pack sample showed up a day early. Even happier to say I love the way those Kansas boys do math. Keith included 9 flavors instead of the 5 pack.

It's one of the better balms I use, I picked this huge bottle up on discount because of a small dent in the corner. It feels very silky and absorbs really fast.
