Why, Thank you! Yes indeed, it worked quite well So, like a FB on 9? I'm sorry to hear about your flare up Clint. I hope you get some relief soon! Sweet blue tip, Brian!
May 23 - shaving in an Italian bakery!!! Merkur 34C Rapira SS Chrome(day 2) French Vanilla (JR#72) brush DIY PSO Stirling Almond Creme Alum/Thayers/Nivea Today, with permission, I raided my wife's stash of soaps. I was a bit anxious to try them as she only has 2 for now, Almond Creme and Vanilla Bean Espresso. Today, I chose Almond Creme. French Vanilla has great backbone and quickly loaded and created an awesome lather. I love how this brush is both silky soft and quite stiff. It is my go to brush for harder soaps. It is a pleasure to use. The scent totaly reminds me of walking into my favorite Italian bakery just after they took out the cookies. The smell of marzipan filled the room. The soap has a perfect scent of a rich but not too sweet almond scent. It was a real treat to use it today. The Rapira SS Chrome blade was OK. I needed 4.5 passes to get the BBS. It was draggier than my preferred blades and draggier than yesterday's usage leading me to believe I might not get a day 3 from it. I doubt this blade will make it to my preferred list but it is OK for use in a pinch. The alum did sting a bit but after 4.5 passes, I would expect more than what occurred.
May 23 (Tuesday) - back working with the Frankensoap Gillette Slim on 3 / Topaz Platinum blade (1) Alluminati Envy White brush The Red Green Duct Tape Special frankensoap Alum and TSD Aftershave Milk - Sandalwood I will probably spend the rest of May using the frankensoap, then go back to trying the various soaps in my inventory again in June. Easy shave today. The Slim is slotting right into place and everything else worked well. I always skin stretch now and ride the cap on a DE without even thinking about it. And 1 1/2 brisk passes brought me to a good DFS+/BBS- without any real effort. The alum was quieter than yesterday again, and the TSD sandalwood scented Milk was a nice finish. Clint, I hope you feel better soon, and everybody else, take care of yourselves!
Haven't commented on several shaves. Went out of town and had a "kid free" weekend with my wife. Used my Stirling synthetic travel brush - man I love that thing. Yesterday I shaved with a Castle Forbes lime sample. Great cream, but I'm not sure it's worth $30 a tub to me. This morning was stirling grapefruit soap. First of all, a tiny bit of Stirling goes a loooong way! Second I didn't get any grapefruit scent. I'm a big scent guy and own their their barbershop and cherry, which are nice, strong scents that I really like. Grapefruit really didn't have any smell to me as opposed to TOBS grapefruit, which smells fantastic to me. Lots of Stirling samples left to try. We'll see what happens.
SOTD May 23 Chineese SS Shavette Dorco ST300 Simpson CH2 Synthetic La Toja Aqua Velva Ice Sport This is probably my last attempt at MAYhem for the month. I got this shavette about 6 month ago and never really tried it. I loaded it up with one of the included Dorco ST300's, built a slick lather out of La Toja and away we went. I did two passes WTG and XTG trying to use both hands and doing some skin stretching. Other then 3 weepers there was no other bloodletting. I wasn't quite satisfied with the closeness so I used my Sheraton for a 3rd pass. Finished up with a splash of AV Ice Sport, which wasn't too painful. Today I confirmed what I suspected in that I really don't have the coordination or interest in using non-right angle affixed blades. If anyone here is interested in trying a DE based shavette shoot me a PM and its yours. Have a great day my friends!
Razor: Portland Razor Co Chimera / Supply Provision Custom 3 dot head Blade: Chick Strop: Drygulch 45 Brush Handle: B-400 The Brush by Tom Knot: APShaveCo Tuxedo Soap: Catie's Bubbles Vetiver Post Care: Thayers Witch Hazel Alum Osage Rub Aftershave: Catie's Bubbles Black Bergamot Wonderful shave this morning, I love this soap and AS combo. The soap has that wonderful dirty Vetiver scent with the typically great CB performance. The AS started off similar to Fine's fantastic Green Vetiver, a little fresh Vetiver and lemongrass and then changed to the more dirty Vetiver scent. Absolutely fantastic! It's been 8 hours since I shaved and the scent from the AS is still going strong. Have a great day folks!
I'd take you up on that, but I'd better work on getting rid of some of MY stash before adding someone else's to it
Today I kept my focus on the Asylum, Semogue 1305 and Castle Forbes Lavender cream... And I think I hit a home run! 23.05.2017 And of course prayers out to Clint indeed! Hang in there friend
Thank you my friend. Another 12-24 hours and I will know if the antibiotics are working. The Asylum RX is a beautiful razor.
Duly noted. Post of the week. Get better, friend. Jeeves of Hudson St ~ Velvet Jacket has the EXACT same scent but killer lather. When I first unscrewed the cap from the jar of Jeeves, the deja vu almost floored me. It took a while for me to remember which soap it was.
I have a clix. Great razor in a nice box. Would make a fun travel razor. Mine is missing any plating it might have had on the cap. Will be neat to see what shape yours is in. Now I see the pic nice! Sounds like fun. Tbey must have heard. The money will be in the bank in the morning!! HA..a warped blade is the least of worries. I sent that out for cleaning. See to it they press it please.light starch!
I just found out from Maggards Razors that two items that were out of stock are now back "in business".(I had asked MR to contact me when they would next become available). Gonna pass on one, but I want the other one, to assist me in NB18. Thing is, I don't need it now-it's more of a cold-weather product(CF Ghost Town Barber A.S.). I'll just gamble that I can still order one when we get to around late October. 23 listed in stock now-I think I'll be safe. NB 18, baby.
Praying that the antibiotics work and you get some much deserved relief. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
I regularly shave with my FB on 9; three passes, chin buffing, & G-Slides using a Feather Hi-Stainless blade. It was a similar finish using the Red just barely snugged down. If no one takes you up on that, let me know. I've been looking at the Parker SRX or SR1.
So back to shaving. As I understand it the original MAYhem was to use products we normally would not use. I know @Bama Samurai loves him some Barbasol in a can sooooooo today for the first time in atleast 10 years I shaved with can goo. It's kinda a let down my face did not melt off. I got just as good ofva hi end DFS as I always expect from a 1924 and PAL. What's up with that! I did not enjoy the shave as much, did not even do any prep, but the shave itself was great. So do not blame the canned goo for technique problems folks. It works fine.
