Shave 8 on the GEM, and a great two pass was had by all. Went with the classic lineup with the drugstore finish. 84f and windy, had a great day. Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado!

    Have a great evening!

This morning's shave was with my PIF soap. The lemon chill smells fantastic! It lathers up great too. @bscarpenter warned me that the menthol has a kick. He wasn't kidding! Moved the blade along quickly as my face began to freeze and my eyes began to water a bit. Really enjoyed it, but have to agree that the glacials are probably not an every day thing, as the menthol takes some getting used to. I also got a box of Stirling samples in today with a lot of their summer releases and their butterscotch fan badger brush. Love the scent of every single one of them, much to my surprise. Also love the fan brush. Lots of Stirling, lots of happiness!

So the last couple of shaved I have been using Sammy Soap. Madagascar I think. And if we're keeping score, 0-2. 0-3 if we count the first time.

I went back to my Maggards synthetic brush, but I still haven't figured out the correct ratio. It goes on well and looks good, but quickly pulls a disappearing act on me. Still, there is enough residual slickness for the blade to do its work.

The Schick E3 worked like a charm, with a pass and a half or so. I did some touchups with the Sammy Soap and it worked almost as well as the witch hazel which I did finish with.

A splash of that lovely Energy aftershave milk elixir and I was good to go.

    Happy Wednesday.

    Williams Wednesday MAYhem

    Vintage Williams Stick
    B-400 brush/ Omega 98 boar knot
    '59 Gillette 195 on Nine
    Feather HI-Stainless blade
    Alum, The Veg AS

One day I'll have used up this stick of soap, but today is not that day. New donor knot in the third of three ferrules for the B-400 handle. A new Omega Pro #10098 sacrificed it's plastic bits so the 27mm of long tall bristle could give my Rubberset 400 clone the NOS look. With plenty of glue drying time elapsed, and three Arko lathers to defunk the new brush spell it got a good workout tonight. I wet the textured surface of a suribachi bowl, gave the soap stick a couple of scuffs, and added a shot of The Veg. Don't know if modern Williams will tolerate adding AS. This 1960's version takes it well. Plenty of slick, chushiony, lilac scented lather for three + passes, and all on setting nine. Alum sparkled a little, but not a real burn. Slapped on a booster dash of Ed Pinaud's Finest for a DFS with style.
    Good Shaves Y'all!

Tonight was another lesson in how much I don't know about honing. Last Friday I touched up two razors, a Reynolds smiling wedge which was kind of a bugger to work on, and a Torrey that was already shaving great. I was doubtful that I was doing the Reynolds any favors, and it turned out great. The Torrey was shaving just fine, I was sure it was going to give me the shave of a lifetime, and somehow I managed to dork it up on the finisher and had a horrible shave. I grabbed my Feather and finished. I have no idea what I could have done wrong, but back to the hones it goes, and we will try again.

Thanks. She spent well over half her life taking care of others in some capacity or another. The stories I could tell. She also had an amazing sixth sense. Maddening as a teenager. Never could get away with anything.

Thanks. She is sleeping most of the time now, and when awake is not really aware of reality. My brother, who died in 2009, is apparently alive and well in Wichita to hear her talk, as are both of her parents, both of whom have been gone well over 30 years. Now, I wouldn't doubt that they're really out there in some form, but it does get a bit spooky to hear her talk about the conversations she had with them the day before.

I must be a glutton for punishment. I got a bottle of M-Bomb so all of my shaves could have a Glacial-level chill. Love that freezing sensation.

    May 24

    Razor - Fatip Piccolo
    Blade - perma-sharp-jpg.jpg (2)
    Soap - Tabac
    Brush - Jayaruh #46
    Post - Alum

Who says you have to find some strange and dangerous or semi-broken shaving implement to have MAYhem? Just get a Fatip! My face is pretty raw at the moment, thanks to an apparently over-zealous approach to the shave tonight. This aggressive razor with the Russian Perma-Sharp is a beauty or a beast. Last night beauty shone. Tonight the beast showed up. No serious blood. In fact, just one show of blood on the razor itself that looked bad, but apparently came from a tiny little nick on the left jawline. However, the irritation is fierce. Clearly I either added too much pressure or just got sloppy with the angle. Or both. This is a razor that doesn't forgive much in the way of errors. The only one I own that is less forgiving would be the 1918 Old Style.

Tabac was the soap as I haven't used that in a very long time. That smoky leather aroma was marvelous and it was as slick as any soap I've used in the past month. A reminder why I love the classics. The JR46 was a perfect match for it, producing more than enough lather for a couple of night's worth of shaves.

Overall I'm not complaining. The alum is burning nicely still but the finish is BBS. I'll take it. Besides.....if it doesn't burn once in awhile where's the fun, right?

Out of focus today, loaded up the Futur with a GSB and had a nice shave. Busy week so not much time to keep up with my friends on the 30d world.
