27 May 2017 Blade/Soap Focus Shave Saturday is usually a no shave day for me. However, since this is a three day weekend and the wife and I went down to Virginia to visit my son I went one more day. So, I broke out my Aramis Shave Soap. This soap is from the '80's, but it still lathers up great and smells even better. The Super Speed/Voskhod combo delivered another BBS shave! This is Day six for this blade which usually is in the blade bank by now. Splashed on some Aramis After Shave and it was off to Virginia. Tomorrow is now the no shave day, with the GEM Featherweight up on Monday.
I would be curious to know the percentages as well. I am certain having a less expensive alternative broadened the appeal. It really is a cool little razor.
Razor: Gillette Super Speed 1947 (@Boojum1) Blade: Gillette GSB (5) Brush: Amigos Dos Simpson Chubby 2 Synthetic LE Jade Soap: B&M Latha Oceana Aftershave: Reef Point Command Presence Balm Good shave good day. Raised some good dollars for some kids today.
-Alumigoose -Semogue 1800 -Glacial Margaritas in the Arctic -Glacial Lemon Chill Even though I had plenty of time to shave today, I was too excited to try out my new (to me) Alumigoose, and couldn't wait until I was on the road again. When @clint64 mentioned to me that he was going to send his v1 Alumigoose onward, I jumped all over it. I was disappointed in the v2 for its lack of aggression, but had heard the v1 was a different animal. And yes ladies and gentlemen, a different animal it is. I could tell from the very first stroke that I should go carefully, and was rewarded with a perfect shave. Couldn't call it epic, because I lopped off a mosquito bite I didn't know I even had, and it bled like a stuck pig. It required styptic pencil and a lot of time to get it to stop. The Semogue never even made it long enough to load soap today. I had barely started, and was already picking hairs from the tub, so into the garbage it went. My brush acquisition disorder has been beginning to act up lately, and now I have a giant hole on my shelf that's gonna bug me to no end until I at least have a plan for something to fill it.
May 27 - return of an old favorite Merkur 34C Sharp Star (Day 3) Dark Chocolate(JR#148) DIY PSO Stirling Piacenza Alum/Thayers/AOS PSB With my daughter having a early soccer tournament, the shave got postponed nearly half a day. Having exhausted my new Stirling scents, I decided to return to an old favorite Piacenza. I do not know what it is about this scent other than to say it is awesome! It fills the room and is a wonderful mix of scents. Just love it. As always, perfect thick cushiony and slick lather. Someone posted they did extra passes before the ATG so having longer hair, I decided to do 2 WTG passes. It flight have helped in the end. I did a XTG followed by 2 ATG for a total of 5 passes. I did get the BBS shave. The alum did sting but not as much as I was expecting. 5 passes is a bit insane but this blade just had problems cutting cross grain. It felt smooth and sharp on WTG and ATG. Not sure why XTG had issues. I wonder also if my irritation is coming from XTG passes. In all, blade seems very good and Piacenza was great.
I am glad the razor arrived safely. The V1 is an aggressive razor for sure but it does give a very close shave. I hope you enjoy the razor.
May 27, 2017 Razor: F2 Gillette 195 Adjustable (4) Blade: Feather (1) Brush: Razorock Plissoft 22 Cream: KMF fragrance-free Post: Alum, Listerine, WH Early in this journey, I learned of the legendary Feather sharpness and lived in fear of it... until today. As this MAYhem comes to a close, I decided it was time to finally see what I've been afraid of. Bottom line: nothing, really. All that happened was a very close shave with no blood and just a touch of irritation on my neck. And so, it seems, I've had nothing to be afraid of...
MAYhem!!! May 27 Razor - 1959 (E4) Gillette Fatboy (6) Blade - (1) Soap - Soap Commander Courage Brush - Jayaruh #46 Post - Alum Well the holiday weekend is in full swing which means I'm working long hours in search of lots of money. Thanks to a round of storms today the money was a bit scarce but we're looking for perfect weather the next two days so I'm getting ready. A 13 hour day yesterday left me with a quick dinner and bed last night without a shave. Only a 12 hour day today leaves me time and a little energy to throw a nice Detente style shave together. The Fatboy and a Rapira SS. Fatboy on 6, my sweet spot, and the JR46 with Soap Commander for the win! Two pass plus touch up is near BBS with very little feedback from the alum. A great shave on a two day beard that sets me up for a busy Sunday tomorrow. June is just around the corner and life should be settled down so I can be a bit more present around here. I miss the daily shenanigans and shaves. Hmmm. Maybe we should call it the "three S's". Shaves, Shenanigans and Stuff! Hope you're all having a great weekend with family, friends, bbq's, lake visits etc. Let's take a moment, though, to remember what the holiday means and honor those who gave all.
I do WTG, AGT, then XTG. Seems to give me smoother finish & less irritation. Congrats on enjoying using up soap! Good for you! I like a Feather in a FB. Took me a while but I now do three passes & clean-up on setting nine with a Feather. Other blades do well but seem mild. When you start feeling comfortable, bump it up a number.
I love this soap. It smells aquatic and fresh. It smells to me like a fine Italian cologne. I've never tried Dolomiti so I can't comment
We exchanged texts Saturday morning. He just returned from a week out of town and is trying to get back into the daily routine. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
May 28, 2017 ATT Calypso R1 Feather Romero Olivewood Synthetic MdC Vetyver Fine Fresh Vetiver The start of new week brings about a hardware and software change. After 28 days with Mystic Water Soaps I am ready for a change. So I am ending my Mystic Water May a few days early and starting my June Focus on synthetic brushes. The brush for the week is the Romera Olivewood synthetic paired with the limited edition MdC Vetyver. As expected the MdC Vetyver very easy to lather. I absolutely love the dark earthy scent which adds so much to the shave. I went with a traditional 3 pass shave followed by touch ups in my trouble spots. Overall an excellent near BBS shave. A splash of Fine Fresh Vetiver proved to be a wonderful way to continue enjoying the scent. I hope everyone has a great Sunday.
