What is your plan for MAYhem?

  1. Gonna get crazy with the group using less than fine Japanese shavettes!

I really like mornings where everything just works well together. Another automatic 3 pass near BBS shave this morning finished with a splash of Fine Fresh Vetiver. I hope everyone has a great Wednesday.

This razor is one of, if not the best shaver I own. It is such a fun little car to drive. A little extra care around the corners of my jaw last night, and I caught the baby. A unicorn for myself I think.

Well May came and went, and the only really questionable items I used were razors that I honed. That has really come a long way though. Til now I have pretty much inly done easy stuff, but this month I worked on a couple of harder blades too. It is pretty satisfying when you get one to scary sharp. My next step is to start acquiring some decent user grades to work on, then PIF or sell at around cost. I really enjoy honing, and would like to improve the skill, I just need more razors to work on, and it could also get blades to some new guys to get started.

My RAD has really cooled down. There are plenty of them on the wish list, but I'm not buying for the sake of getting more at this point. I have a nice little rotation set up, and am enjoying them a lot. Being gone most of the time during the week kind of cools the AD's off too, because a guy barely gets the time to use the stuff he has.

    May 2017 Recap

Well May is in the books now. My focus for the month was Mystic Water soaps which I used for 28 days. I have always enjoyed the performance and post shave feel of Mystic Water soaps. In the past I have found them finicky to lather. However the new formula is much easier to load and lather. I also knew that big dense brushes can literally eat soaps for breakfast but I never appreciated how much until this month.

Both soaps were used for 14 days each with the only difference being the brushes used. The big Shavemac Flat Top just destroyed the tub of Raspberry Lemon.

I also spent a great deal of time with the brass General during May. I am really taken with this razor's combination of smoothness and efficiency. My other big hit for the month was the Damaskeene OC which I found to be exceptionally smooth and efficient. The Damaskeene OC is being replated by Nick at Sport Shaving and with luck should be back before the end of June.

Most of all I enjoyed following the progress of the new members and the Mayhem Antics. Overall a great month of participation with the 30 DC. I am looking forward to June.

Great photo and month Jared. You have really made a huge amount of progress with the SR in a relatively short period of time. I have a feeling the same will be true with honing.

Thank you, Clint. 3/4 of the battle is to go Nike on it and Just do it. It seems intimidating when you start, but a few months into it, it becomes a routine, just like anything else a guy puts his mind to.

Great write up, Clint. The difference between those two pucks is amazing. I never knew a brush could have that kind of effect.

First shave with a Feather Proguard on my Asylum RX and I'm very pleased with it! Shaved as close as the Feather Pro and gave a better post-shaving feeling, more comfortable. I even was able to achieve a comfortable and weeper-free ATG pass on the moustache area... I still have to try the Kai Protouch but this Feather Proguard seems to be a keeper. ;)

    Gillette Slim
    Stirling Unscented PSB
    Proraso Green AS

It was nice wrap up to the month. It was a great two pass DFS. I really like the CO Bigelow cream, and I wonder if the scent is exactly the same as Proraso Green. The AS and this cream are not exactly the same, but they go well together.

This has been a fun month. I didn't get quite as much MAYhem in as some, but I had a couple of questionable shaves. I also got a few straight and shavette shaves in, which were encouraging as they showed my skills were as rusty as I had thought. I will be a bit more intentional about using these in the future.

AS normal, I had a lot of fun this month and am looking forward to next month. Thanks to all the 30DC members who make this such a fun thread.

After my conversation with @jtspartan yesterday I decided I'd go into more WTG 'detail'. So I tried to go WTG everywhere the first run and it felt better but took a little more time than my usual first pass of all downward. I also woke up a little later today so I only got 2 passes in. Still a great shave and my neck is a little happier.

    Happy shaving everyone!

Williams's Wednesday and the end of a really nice streak. Not sure if it was angle pressure didn't Lather Williams right but I definitely left this shave irritated. The Alum Block stung like hell on the neck and upper lip I had almost forgotten what the Alum feels like it's been months since it's really stinging. Oh well I'll have to slow down tomorrow to get back on track with the 30 day irritation free focus.

2nd time with the E/Personna combo. Was a little careless the first day with this razor and paid for it with some weepers. Took more time this morning, started with a great lather and ended up with a near BBS without the blood (ok, 1 small weeper...). My neck rash from whatever didn't enjoy its meeting with the Barbershop splash this morning. Oh Well.
I only got about 14 Injector shaves in this month, so I'll be continuing the focus into June.
    Have a great day all!
