    Doug,
Do you have all three PannaCrema Nuavia soaps?

Can you describe the scents and which you like best?
I am thinking of buying one while at Pasteur's but not sure which.

    thanks

Yes I have all three scents, however, I just got them last week and have only used the Verde. I'm sure others can fill you in on the other 2 scents.

    The parker is up tonight!!

I use whatever I have. Mostly the same dollar store dorco or such. @PanChango sent some Rapiras with the Parker. I will be using those in it.

Maybe you can get them to let you test the scents. I only have Blu and Rossa both are great but of the two Blu is my favorite. I know Mark @Boojum1 has all three perhaps he will chime in as well. There is a pass around on B&B for Nuavia soaps as well.

I have read that the Blu gets great reviews.

I am doing a pass around trial of all three at the moment. All three have very nice scents , and smell like they come from the same "family" as each other, if that makes any sense. The blue has more of a spicy cookie type note to it, The Verde has more of an aqua type note to it, and I could can't put my finger on the note for the red. I think if you liked any one of them you would probably like all of them. There is a pass around on B and B with many reviews on it if you are interested.

All three scents are very complex. The website does a very good job with a scent pyramid for each soap

    Blu
    [IMG]

    Rossa

    Verde

Nuàvia Verde's scent has been developed in Grasse (France).

The top notes are fresh and aromatic:

    • Grapefruit
    • Bay Leaves
    • Rose

    The middle notes are woody:

    • Cedarwood
    • Vetyver
    • Precious Wood

    Base notes are Amber:

    • Amber
    • White Musk
    • Goldmoss

This month I will continue my focus on my straight razor edges comparing synthetic finishers and a Zulu Grey.

Today's razor was a Mastro Livi, it still has the Master's edge, very smooth and very sharp. 4 passes and a bonus WTG on the neck. I finished very dolphin smooth and just tickle from the alum, zero blood.

    - Schick E3 Injector
    - Maggard's 24mm Synthetic Brush
    - Maggard's Sweet Orange PSO
    - Dr. Jon's Conquest Soap
    - Thayer's Lemon Witch Hazel

Well I decided to give the straight a try. What follows is a repost from a thread I started in the Straight Razor area.

So over the holiday weekend I spoke to Larry @ Whipped Dog about my first straight razor. I placed an order, and it arrived yesterday. A HESS Hair Milk Laboratories, 5/8" full hollow (pics to come). I did get the poor man's strop kit from him, but also decided to buy the Straight Razor Design modular paddle strop. I wanted to focus on my technique, not the strop.

So tonight I decided to give it a go. Results.... not sure. So my only intention tonight was to do a single pass on each cheek and then finish with the Schick E3. First thing I noticed was that I found it a bit difficult to determine the angle of the blade, as my hand was in the way. I tried to keep the angle shallow, and was just trying to remove the lather... but it didn't really see to go anywhere. The blade I mean. Kept feeling like it was sticking. I was able to eventually make a pass, and it seemed like it did do some reduction. I didn't cut myself.

i then switched hands, and tried for a single pass on the left side with much the same results. Again it felt like I had done some reduction, but not a lot. After that I rinsed the blade off and set it down to dry while I finished my shave. When I was done I took the paddle strop (I had the smooth leather attached) and did 30 passes.

Tomorrow (or maybe not since I'm going to the symphony) I think I'll relather the cheeks and do a second pass.

    But until then.... Tips?

Do you think my angle was too steep, and that is why it wasn't gliding? I prep with PSO, and my Schick E3 glides over the lather, so I don't think it is a problem with the lather.

The modular paddle strop came with a rough leather and two felt pads, should I be using one of those too?

Anything else I should be aware of?

So as I said before This month I will be working on my honing skills or the lack there of. I just finished honing second razor but third time honing a razor. I will try to keep it very basic with the technical honing term for all of you safety razor users.

The razor: 5/8 Dovo Best Quality
Honing Stones: 1k Naniwa Sharping Stone w/ Naniwa Dressing Stone
    3k Naniwa Sharping Stone
    8k Naniwa Sharping Stone
    10k Naniwa Specialty Stone
    12k Naniwa Sharping Stone
    Holder: Naniwa Sharping Stone Holder
    Squirt bottle of water
    Electrical tape, Green: 1 layer
    Loupe: 30X

50 straight passes then 3 circle passes followed by 50 more straight passes on the 1k.
50 straight passes then 2 circle passes followed by 50 more straight passes on the 3k.
50 straight passes then 2 circle passes followed by 30 more straight passes on the 8k.
50 straight passes then 1 circle pass followed by 30 more straight passes on the 10k.
50 straight passes on the 12k.
About every 25 passes would wipe the blade and examine the blade.
Stropped 50 time on poly web followed by 75 on leather

I will update tomorrow after shave and let you know how much blood letting accord or if I finished with the razor.

I have read some reviews on B+B that say the Rossa has quite a strong / noticeable tobacco scent -- if you like tobacco you will love Rossa and if you don’t you will hate it. Blu is more a spicy citrus and Verde seemed to be described as sort of woodsy lakeside countryside.

Why the fear of falling, Chris? Humans can fall for tens of thousands of feet without suffering any harm at all ... It's just that last inch that kills them... :) :)

Friday June 2 - New everything Focus

Gem Damaskeene CC SE / Gem PTFE (5?)
30DC LE brush - natural maple handle and AP Shave Co cashmere knot
Tube of TOBS Mr. Taylor shaving cream
Alum and TSD Aftershave Milk - Sandalwood

After a long day sitting and tapping keys, I enjoyed a wonderful evening shave getting rid of an 18 hour stubble.

The 30DC LE brush was a great performer. It is very light but solid and an ideal size for mixing lather in a deep lather bowl as I do. I think Jason set the loft of the cashmere knot perfectly: it was pillowy soft on the face without being at all floppy and still had plenty of backbone to whip up the lather and rub it on the face. It really is a great synthetic knot. Between the knot and the size and design of the handle, I can foresee this becoming one of my favourite brushes quite apart from the sentimental value attached to it.

Well done, Jason! Those of you still waiting for yours have quite a treat in store.

The "Mr. Taylor's" is a new TOBS scent for me. I would describe it as a spicy, floral sandalwood. The website describes it as a base of sandalwood, cedar and musk with an overlay of lighter scents including patchouli, lavender and citrus. I definitely like it. The cream gives the usual excellent TOBS performance: it whips easily into a creamy lather, provides top-notch protection and has a good post-shave face feel.

Tonight I removed the shim from the Gem blade again before using the Damaskeene. (Yesterday I shimmed the spine of the blade with half of another spine to mimic the thickness of the original Damaskeene blades.) To be honest, I detected no difference in the shave with and without the shim. In both cases, the razor provided an efficient yet mild and comfortable shave. This was quite different from my EverReady 1914 and 1924, which I found comfortable and usable with a shimmed blade and so uncomfortable they were unusable without. The 1912s are somewhere inbetween -- good shavers with an unshimmed blade but a tiny bit better with a shim.

Tonight's shave was two passes to a near BBS with no complaints from the alum. I used a balm afterwards mainly to enjoy the face feel and to extend the sandalwood scent from the shaving cream a little longer.

Hope everyone enjoys a super weekend!

But if you remove the velocity gained from the fall, that one inch isn't very dangerous at all. But if you fall forever without that last inch you might dehydrate and die...or maybe have a heart attack.

Us sane people have a healthy respect of tennis courts on top of skyscrapers. :p

I get more of the patchouli than tobacco in the Rossa. To me it's a lighter scent than the Blu to me. This could be that the scent strength of the Blu is more intense.

Yes I'll work through the Super-Max group. I've never tried the Titanium, mostly because I seem to have an allergy to a titanium ring my wife bought me. If I wear it more than a couple of days my finger starts itching, turns red, all that good stuff. So shaving with a titanium blade has seemed a bit of a risk to me. I'm thinking I need to at least give it a day or three though.

Yes, well, you might notice that I didn't volunteer even to consider ever going near that insane tennis court myself ... ;)
