Yes. I just recall getting a little annoyed at reading a story where the author wrote about "a man I'll call Frank from a town I'll call Baltimore".

North Alabama uses half oak/half hickory for pork. Fruit woods added for flavor. And agreed, only beef and bison can handle mesquite.

Thanks Perry. It was a bit surreal to awake to solders everywhere this morning in London.

I'm sitting here feeling a little blue and glad you guys are around for some entertainment
I have three daughters and they have all moved out and away from home. My twins turned 34 today and live 500 miles away. It's days like this where I miss them terribly.
My wife and I have a nice evening planned tonight that will help us both.
    Carry on.

    If I had those blades,
I could shave with a Schick razor.
If I had a Schick razor...

Love it when a plan comes together!

The ExSWMBO & I raised four children. Much of their education was Home Schooling. As Principle of our little one room (of the house) school the goal was to develop our student ability to perform independent though and actions. In the teen age years as they began to get surely I told them they could get part time jobs, save up bus fare, travel to anywhere in the U.S. and be working the next day. My oldest now lives in Australia, 2nd oldest near D.C. The other two are basement dwellers with their mom 600+ miles from me. One hundred years ago kids grew up, took on their parents professions, and lived nearby. New Millennium, and a different world we live in. FaceTime apps and video chatting, catch a plane ride, plan a vacation at their home!
Enjoy your peace and quiet, or invite the grandkids for the summer?

June 4 - Soap Smooth Riez

    Merkur 34C
    Astra SP(day 1)
    23 mm AOS Pure Badger
    DIY PSO
    Soap Smooth Riez
    Alum/Thayers/AOS PSB

The PermaSharp has come to the end of its use and so I switched to an old faithful, Astra SP.

Riez at first smelled like a butter lemon or orange scent. I think I was mixing up the smell of rosemary and mint for this. This soap is supposed to be lavender, rosemary and mint. I found the scent pretty good and stronger than the Ginger's Garden. I would call it more of a medium strength because it was easy to detect but did not fill the room.

Lather took a little more effort than GG but GG just leaped into a lather. It took a bit more work but yielded a good lather that I found light but slick. It was still on the quick side to dissolve. Not as thick as recent soaps but it could be that I used too much water. The soap lasted but had a tingly feeling. This could be bubbles bursting . It did not dissipate though and did not need rewhipping.

3 passes and no extra work yielded a BBS. I never felt the soap left anything behind for touch ups. Skin felt clean and soft. Neither greasy nor dry.

Alum was quieter today than any shave with the PermaSharp. A light bite to let me know I am fallible that dulled quickly. Thayers was silent.

I couldn't get mine running either. It would go just fine if I fed the carb, but it's not drawing from the tank. I had way too much going on to dink with it, so I had my wife drop it at the hardware store when she ran to town. I hate weed whips. Honest to God, if it was up to me I'd rock in the whole damn yard except for a few mulched spots to grow trees out of. Roundup it once a year and go fishing. If I didn't hate people so much I could see myself moving to a townhouse.

Fantastic photo. That is a heck of a river you live next to. Looks like there could be some awesome kayaking.

    Monday shave and special mini-focus

I was one of the lucky recipients of Persona twin injector blades from @Screwtape so in between straight razor shaves it will be a mini focus this month.

I loaded up my Shick adjustable and went to work. Four passes and a very nice first use with these blades. These blades are a huge improvement over the Chicks, probably why I almost never use my injectors. I finished with just tickle from the alum and a smooth face.

Yeah, I figured you had seen it. I pretty much stuck to the 45 degree slide and the swoop thingy at the end, and it worked great.

The problem I had was that the blade doesn't really sit flat, and needed what seemed like a really exaggerated rolling x to get contact throughout. It SEEMED like I was kind of doing what Glen says not to do, but sometimes it is hard to tell from the video. It worked out great, but I want some more practice before I do anything more than a touch up.

How long until you can retire and take turns parking a camper in their various yards all year? We have already told our kids to get ready for it.

I am getting ready for the empty nester thing, and I know that like you, I am going to miss them terribly.

Thank you Chris. My wife and I just finished a nice dinner, when the NBA game ends, we are going to watch a movie together. I am a lucky man and very grateful for three great kids. Thank you for reminding me what matters.
We visited the twins a couple of weeks ago and had a wonderful time. Got to see a 3D sonogram session of our first grandchild who is due next month. I'm sure we will be doing a lot of traveling in the future and am thankful that I will be able to do that. Thank you for the encouragement. It helps.

    Have a great evening guys. Game's over, it's time for a movie:signs068:

    Trials and Tribulations

    June 4

    Razor - 1959 (E4) Gillette Fatboy (3)
    Blade - Super Max Stainless Plus.jpg (1)
    Soap - Arko
    Brush - Jayaruh #46
    Post - Alum

Second blade in the renewed Grand Blade Trial and I'm staying with Super-Max. After three great shaves with the Platinum Plus, I'm switching to the Stainless Plus. I noticed that they have the Super Stainless now and I think it's this blade repackaged. I'll give the Super a shot to compare them at some point.

My intention was to use the Semogue 620 boar brush but I've gotten spoiled with the synthetics. I forgot to start the soak on the Semogue so when I got up I just grabbed the JR46. Ten seconds of soaking in the mug is all it takes to get it ready to go. I'll remember to soak a boar tomorrow. Fatboy on 3, lather properly whipped into shape and the shave was on!

The word of the day is smooth. The first pass, especially, was very smooth and comfortable. When I turned it to XTG in the second pass it remained smooth but I noticed just a hint of irritation on my neck. Not much but more than the past three shaves. I also noticed less reduction out of this blade. I had to do a bit more touch up to finish with a high DFS, and it didn't get to near-BBS for me. Seems like this blade may be a bit less sharp than its platinum cousin. If the reduction improves as aggressiveness increases we'll know I'm right. Alum was just a bit warm on my neck, nothing major. Still, not as good a result as the Platinum Plus on the first round. We'll see how it handles from here.

I got home tonight looking forward to two days off this week, back on schedule. Got a text from my boss that one of the other managers was admitted to the hospital tonight. Not sure why but they needed me to cover his store tomorrow. When she said they'd deliver lunch to me I couldn't say no. I work for good people. I can give them an extra day to help out. I'll likely spend most of the day playing on my laptop anyway since I'm really just there to cover sales. Hope you all had a great weekend!
