It was a funny picture commentary anyway; I was just nitpicking. Besides, even the American part alone was one of the largest amphibious landings ever and it's true -- the American amphibious landing specialist troops didn't take part. For that matter, I believe the Torch landings in North Africa in 1942 were probably the second-largest amphibious landing ever, and the US Marines missed that one too. And Anzio and Sicily...

The Marines were tied up in the Pacific War, but it did mean that there sure were some darned big beachheads taken elsewhere without their help...

Tuesday June 6 - onward and upward with the soaps

    Gillette Slim on 3 / Topaz Platinum ( 2 )
30DC LE brush with Cashmere knot
    Pannacrema Pure2O tallow soap DFS
Alum and leftover soap lather as balm

Today's soap is much like the Nuavia vegan ones in having a list of top, middle and bottom notes as long as your arm that go to make up a complex scent. I have a nose about as unlike a trained bloodhound's as you can get. All I can say about the scent is that it was strong both in the tub and in the lather and smelled sort of like spicy, floral citrus. Whatever is in it, it's good stuff.

The soap itself is a medium soft soap that loads quickly onto a damp brush and makes a lot of lather while using relatively little product. It's a very good tallow soap that provided excellent glide and protection and left a soft, clean, hydrated but non-greasy face feel behind. I used the leftover lather as a balm I rubbed on my face and left for a few minutes while cleaning up, and I felt no need for any other balm afterwards.

The shave left me very near a BBS after using my new modified pattern of two passes and a couple touchups. No squawks from the alum anywhere.

Tomorrow I will try the Vetiver version of this new Pure2O soap. I understand vetiver is a spicy tropical grass, and that is what the tub smells like to me - a strong, spicy grass...

Great mini review on the soap. I am looking forward to your thoughts on the Vetiver tomorrow.

Yes, shaving bowls are something I have managed to avoid developing a taste for acquiring -- until now. If you start posting pics of ones like that, I am going to wind up with another shaving equipment acquisition disorder. I have already gone and looked at The Distinctive Goat website...

I missed delivery on a shave bowl I ordered from Turkey about a month ago. It didn't even show as out for delivery. So now I have to wait for tomorrow. It will be my first real shave bowl.

    Day 3...

Continuing my straight razor journey, a single WTG pass on each cheek and then finishing off with the Schick E3. Prepped as normal with a nice shower and some Maggard's Sweet Orange PSO... followed by Dr. Jon's Conquest soap. The soap easily whipped up into a slick lather with my 24mm Maggard's synthetic brush. I had plenty of lather left over, seemed like such a waste.

The single pass with the straight went well, no blood. Which I could say the same about the Schick. I actually felt like the off hand pass was better than my strong hand, but I feel like I'm getting the angle correct. Something I did notice tonight was that with my dominant hand I wasn't getting use out of the full blade, whereas I was when I was shaving offhand.

After the cheeks i wanted to shave something else but kept myself in check for now. Slow steps.

The Schick E3 went with two passes, one ATG and one XTG and then some touchups. The touchups are where I drew some blood. just some tiny nicks, but nothing serious.

All in all a good shave.
