June 2017!!! Trials and Tribulations June 6 Razor - 1959 (E4) Gillette Fatboy (9) Blade - (3) Soap - Arko Brush - WCS Synthetic Post - Alum Final shave with the Super-Max Stainless Plus as well as Tuesday - which means head shave. Head shave first with the 23c and Arko and no problems. I actually was a bit disappointed about halfway through I didn't use a pain stick instead. It's been awhile since I've done that for a head shave. Next week. My thoughts on this blade held up. The baby showed up on the aggressive 9 and it was still smooth, though the alum was a tad hotter. Still, from the feel of the shave I could tell this blade works best in an aggressive setup, indicating that my feeling it was less sharp than the Platinum Plus was correct. Still a very fine blade. So far I would recommend either or both of the the Plus blades, Platinum or Stainless. Use the Platinum with milder razors, the Stainless with the more aggressive. I think tomorrow is about time to roll out some tribulation around here. I'm thinking shavette. Bad shavette. Or at least potentially bad shavette. I'll choose my weapon tomorrow night! Six fine shaves in the past week from the Fatboy! I'll switch to the Slim when I resume trials.
SOTD June 6, 2017 Blade: Personna Twinjector thanks to @Screwtape Razor: Schick L1 injector Brush: Omega Hi synthetic Lather: Route 66 Lavender Woods Post: Witch hazel, Stirling Bergamot Lavender aftershave WTG, touch-up Nice evening shave. Great lather from the Route 66 with nice glide, protection, etc. Love Route 66 soaps. My wife didn't care for the Bergamot Lavender aftershave though. That's okay as it's only a sample. It's a little earthy for me as well. No pic as I'm on vacation and didn't have time. Hope you've had a great day!
Still on Focus June Tabac, Osaka Suribachi Bowl SP➵2 V.S. Pure Black badger No Name Shavette, Personna MP Schick J-1 & Personna Twin blades Alum, Lucky Tiger AS & Face Tonic Still up in the Tabac, though I'm about ready to move on. I'd have thought several back to back uses would have hydrated the puck but I had issues getting the brush to load enough soap. Full N to S pass with the shavette. Load more soap. Another shavette pass S to N. Humm, load a little more soap. Switch to the injector for ear to nose and back again. Squeezed the knot and found enough lather for fiddly clean up duty. Alum reported I know what I'm doing despite the bad set down & nick on my chin. Can't say the half DE blade is dull but I may swap out soon anyways. Found the Luck Tiger while shuffling the cabinet. Close enough to the soap scent, then I used a dab of S.C Respect from a sample packet. Shy of a DFS, but certainly CCS. Good Shaves Y'all!
Pics Man! Show us the goods, else how are we going to get others to shop one, too? /Enabler Mode - Off. Have you taken it for a lather yet?
They are a fine piece of machinery. Amazing for being almost 60 years old. I wish the cases held up as well.
6 June 2017 - Sticking to It! Back in the Arko Challenge. Two passes to bliss! Gonna be doing shavette and mostly shave sticks this month. Still trying to get caught up on sleep! Big thunderstorm outside in the prairie, watching the lightning after a nice FE finished shave, about to light the pipe and read. Other than that all is quiet in Colorado. Have a wonderful Wednesday!
I dug out my Savinelle tonight. It has not been getting any attention. Tomorrow a signature shave for Williams Wednesday.....then a few days of shavette love.
I have a couple of older tubs of ToBS. One rose and one St. James. They have both dried to the more soft soap stage. Both still lather great right off the top though. Have you tried a boar or horse with the Tabac?
Question for the group: I notice a lot of you use Lucky Tiger AS. Have any of you ever tried or used Lucky Tiger Liquid Shaving Cream? If so, what's it like?
Previous two Tabac lathers were with a B-400 and a Tuxedo synthetic, & a JR #130 using a Maggard's synthetic. It's a harder soap puck so I generally use a synth or boar. Ought to pay attention to my own understanding and save the badgers for creams or softer soaps. I could hydrate the Tabac prior to loading, but with warm weather here I've switched to cool tap water instead of hot water. I did hope the puck would have softened since it's been my Soap 'O Focus for this month so far. I don't have a horse hair bristle brush yet. Tom @twhite reminded me I need to get going on my project of making a knot from scratch. I've got the tail hair in 4 colors, but no mane hair. Not going to attempt the water buffalo ear hair knot. None of those critters around to harvest bristle. Still no luck locally sourcing boar bristle either.
Tuesday night and Wednesday morning shave: I had an evening rendezvous so I had to shave again in the evening, which means shaving again the following morning. When I have multiple shaves in less than 24 hours the second and third shaves are not with a straight razor. The razor of choice was my Schick adjustable loaded with a Persona twin blade. I did just 3 passes skipping the ATG pass. No fuss, no muss, just a quick easy shave. Irritation A- Closeness A-
June 7, 2017 Colonial Razor “The General” Feather Super Pro Simpson CH2 Synthetic Mystic Water Raspberry Lemon Fine Italian Citrus With each day I am more impressed with the Feather Super Pro/General combo. While not as forgiving or as smooth as the regular Feather, the Super Pro does kick up the efficiency to another level. MW Raspberry Lemon and the CH2 continue to work well together. A 2 pass shave with minor touchups ended in my normal near BBS. Overall a very good shave and a start to the day. I hope everyone has a great Wednesday.
Last shave of the 30 Day Rule! Excellent 3 pass shave WTG, and the 2 XTG. Near BBS for my first day at my new job. Got a little more feedback from the alum today. I was amazed how short my hair was after that perfect shave the other night, this one was almost that good. I already ordered a couple more soaps so I might go beyond 30 days by a day or two until those arrive. My experience with the 30 day rule is three thumbs up! Thanks for all your help again, guys and happy shaving!
