  1. Thank you, and now that it's broken in I'm liking it more and more.
  2. Great picture, Doug. You probably don't get too man complaints.
  3. Thank you Jim. You'd be surprised. :)
  4. I posted this in the injector and se thread but I am so excited I just had to post it here as well. Just got the email back from Nick at Sport Shaving. My Damaskeene replate is complete and will ship out tomorrow. I think it turned out great.

  5. Beautiful Clint.
  6. Thank you Doug.
  7. @clint64, the razor looks absolutely fantastic!

I have a little list of razors I want to have work done on when I get around to it and also decide I can afford it, either replating by Sport Shaving or Hibco or recoating by Delta Echo or North Shore. The vintage razors I use in my daily rotation are mostly in excellent working condition but rather grungy cosmetically so I don't feel guilty about pulling them from "display only collector status" to "use and get wet and possibly scratch up" status.

My Fatboy and Black Beauty, for example, are both badly the worse for wear and old neglect. I have thought about getting all my three Gillette adjustables - Fatboy, Black Beauty and Slim - done in a matching guncoating combo since the aluminum BB can't be plated. And then getting my user grade Gems replated.

When I see pics like yours, I start thinking I should get on that.

  10. Thursday June 8 - Italian frankensoap stopover

    Rockwell 6s on plate #3 / Topaz Platinum ( 2 )
30DC LE brush with Cashmere knot
The Red Green Duct Tape Special frankensoap (Italian soft almond soap melange)
Alum and Thayers Witch Hazel Astringent Aftershave

Today was a "just shaving" break from trying new soaps. Went with a well dialled in Old Reliable. The 30DC LE brush handles the frankensoap just as well as it has every other soap or cream I've used it on so far.

Two passes to a BBS - first diagonal on my cheeks and upper lip, WTG on my chin and ATG on my neck, then ear to nose XTG everywhere. On my first pass I also try to hold the razor with the head slightly diagonal to the path of travel so that I do the "Gillette slide". It seems to work.

When I looked in the mirror at the end of my shave, I did find I had had one painless weeper on my chin that had been sealed by the alum bar. Just a tiny blot of blood where it looked like I ran over a small pimple without noticing. Otherwise a great close shave with no problems or irritation.

Tomorrow I will probably start visiting my soaps again in alphabetical order. The next up is two varieties of Gold Dachs, followed by two types of Haslinger to finish the week.
  11. I have a near mint Damaskeen SB boxed set that I wanted to keep pristine. So when I got the chance to buy the OC version I jumped at the chance given the good price. After trying it out I decided to get it replated and enjoy the razor. Some might disagree but I think it was $60 well spent. Now it will be around for another 100 years for someone to enjoy.

    Thank you. :happy088:

  13. The work Nick did on your razor was the thing that pushed me over the edge.
  14. He does good work, and I find he has a pretty decent turn around time. He certainly did a great job on your razor. I bet it still shaves better than it looks, though!
  15. I agree. It shaved great before now the looks will be closer to the shave quality.

  16. Friday shave

Today's razor is a big 7/8 Hart Steel with a 3/4 grind, second shave since a Zulu Grey touch up. Added to the mix was a Thäter brush and Razorock P.160.

The edge was smooth and very sharp, 4 passes and a tiny nick and just a tickle from the alum plus my face was nice and smooth.

  18. Soap 'O the Week Focus

    Route 66 Barbershop Hop
    LE30DC Cashmere Cypress
    NoName shavette, Personna MP
    Schick J-1, Personna Injector II
    Alum, Osage Rub, Clubman AS

Next soap on my week long focus is well known to the 30 Day Crew. Lanolin for a great face feel, lathers easily, and I enjoy the hard to define barber shop scent. Using a fresh Cashmere synthetic knot from APShaveCo mounted in Jason's LE handle rewarded a bowl full of slick lather. I'll do a side by side with a Tux knot to compare, but this synthetic performs well. Both razors did too. The SS shavette got a blade change receiving the other half of the Med Prep while the injector kept it's current twins. One minor shavette set down error, self sealing. All's well with the Schick. Finished with a smooth CCS or better. Alum quiet as could expect, and the Pinaud finished in that classic scent.
