Threw a curve to this morning shave as one of the neighbors knocked on my door just before hitting the sack and handed me a package that was delivered to her house and not mine. Inside was the DFS LE 2017 Shave Soap and Aftershave and I should have waited until the weekend but once I opened the tub of soap, had to use in todays shave instead of Newmann 1911. First thing that came to mind when I cracked open the tub was that this soap is a sweeter version of Cologne Russe and I really like B&M Cologne Russe. The aftershave initial whiff the menthol is strong so the aroma is different so had to wait until today to see how the aroma would change. Well this morning, couldn't be happier. Easy to lather, super slick razor glide and slick post shave feel. The aroma is nice and strong which is to my liking and out of the six L&L Grooming shave soaps I have tried so far, I like the aroma of this one best and the slickness seemed to be kicked up a notch but maybe not. The aftershave was strong on menthol and muted the sweet cologne aroma at first but now 20 minutes later the menthol is gone and now I can pickup of the aroma of the aftershave. Another top notch offering from L&L Grooming. Back to Wm Neumann tomorrow shave.

No pick of the soap/shave already at work

    Clix Bakelite
    Personna Platinum
    Tabac
    Stirling 24MM Synthetic

First shave with the Clix bakelite was had last night. My first impression were that this razor is much more aggressive then the Tech. That combined with its light weight and one better pay attention to technique and pressure. The other thing I noticed was that the head geometry kept the blade fairly flat and thus a very shallow handle angle was required to stay on the cap, This was rather difficult to maintain because it felt like the razor wanted to naturally fall into a much more aggressive blade angle. In the end I was able to keep on the cap and had a very nice DFS as result. As always Tabac made a super slick, very wet lather which I followed up with some of my homemade Tangerine AS. Have a great day my friends!

Test driving new handles for the Tech (7075 aluminum), beard, and Shovelhead (Star DE), head. I don't understand why standard practice is to use massive stainless steel handles with the aluminum Tech. These both work great.[IMG]

    6/9/17 Friday

    Razor: RR Hawk Silver
    Blade: Feather Professional (6)
    Pre Shave: Hibco Nag Champa
    Lather: Proraso Green
    Bowl: Hibco Shave Shoppe
    AS: Aqua Velva Musk
    Brush: VDH Badger

Two very easy, passes, WTG/ATG, more clean-up than I wanted, l think due to a dull blade about half way through. Not nearly enough shaves from this blade. Although I did get a near BBS, so I can`t complain. Wishing a great shave for all, God Speed to each.

    Ming Shi 2000s Razor
    Personna Lab Blue Blade
    Jayaruh #156/30mm Tuxedo Brush
    Dirty Deeds Vanilla Sandalwood Soap
    Dickinson's Witch Hazel
Pinaud Virgin Island Bay Rum After Shave

Third shave with this combo, but put it on setting 4. First pass (WTG, XTG) went fine without a hitch, mowed down the beard pretty good. Second pass (ATG) I noticed a bit more aggressiveness compared to my last shave, so I dialed it back down to 3.5 and it felt better. As I've mentioned before, I can get the razor to consistently keep the gap even while adjusting the settings. But as I also mentioned, one side has a slightly larger or smaller gap, depending on how you look at it. It's not a lot, but it could be equal to a half setting on the razor. So for me, that extra could be a 4.5 if I set it at 4. So from now on, I'll just keep it at between 3 and 3.5 because it worked out fine before. Besides that, I got a really good BBS shave without any irritation.

Hello fellow Shave Denizens! This afternoons SOTD takes me back to the origins of my journey through the traditional wet shave kingdom. For today's shave I used the razor that started me on this run. My heirloom 1946/47 Gillette Aristocrat, which I inherited from one of my good friends, Ray Garrison. In his prime, he was a mans man, an outdoors man, hunter, fisherman, brawler extraordinare. But most of all, he was my friend. Ray, may God rest your weary soul, my brother. This ones for you. So without further ado, -

This was the first razor of many in my collection. And it won't leave my possession until I pass as well. But I digress. Have a good afternoon everyone. God Bless.
