The finish is dull, they are smaller than the Ace brand, and there's an external spring on the Oster set. [IMG][IMG][IMG]

Don't know if the Oster works. I'd send the whole unit if any parts would fix your set. They "operate". The Ace was shiny, so I disassembled, cleaned, sharpened, lubed, reassembled, & enjoy.

Razor: Blackland Blackbird OC El Druida Handle
Blade: Pol Silver (6.2) Voskhod Teflon Coated 1)
Brush: Shavemac ATG LE The Nisky Silvertip Fan
    Soap: Nuavia Verde
    Aftershave: Lucky Tiger
    Bowl: The Distinctive Goat Maple/Cherry

My focus this month is on Nuavia shops. I just finished my 10 days with the Verde soap.

Nuàvia Verde represents a new concept in the shaving world. Even if it should be used as a normal shaving soap, Nuàvia has three different functions: pre-shave, pro-shave, and after-shave. Nuàvia is an experience.

Nuàvia is entirely vegetal. It is as vegan as can possibly be and it contains a reduced, extra fine ingredient list. For example, it’s made with vegetal stearic acid, coconut oil, shea butter, calendula extract and added glycerine.

More importantly is what Nuàvia does not contain. There’s no palm oil, no sodium hydroxide, no surfactants, no colorants, no preservatives, no parabens, no mineral oils, no petroleum derivatives, no tetrasodium EDTA, no tetrasodium etidronate, no titanium dioxide, no benzyl benzoate. Nuàvia is not tested on animals and it is not made with milled ready-made soap pellets.

Nuàvia comes in a specially designed, large, handmade, hand painted ceramic bowl. The container is large to allow an optimal brush loading.

Nuàvia Verde's scent has been developed in Grasse (France).

The top notes are fresh and aromatic: Grapefruit, Bay Leaf, Rose.

The middle notes are woody: Cedarwood, Vetyver, Precious Wood.

Base notes are: Amber, White Musk, Goldmoss.

I found this soap to be excellent, very easy to lather into a long lasting, slick lather with a protective cushion and glide. It also had a soothing post shave conditioning effect.

Great photo Doug. Nuavia is really a great soap. I might need to add the Verde.

Saturday June 10 - on with the soaps

    Rockwell 6s on plate #3 / Topaz Platinum ( 2 )
30DC LE brush in Maple with Cashmere knot
Gold Dachs Sandelholz ( sandalwood )
Alum and TSD Aftershave Milk - Sandalwood

Much better lather tonight from this version of the Gold Dachs - I refrained from flooding the lather bowl and drowning the brush while whipping. Again the hard puck loaded soap quickly and easily onto a damp synthetic brush.

Two pass patterns to a DFS. No muttering from the alum. I used the aftershave milk more to extend a pleasant sandalwood experience than from any need for postshave skincare.

Tomorrow I return to the Italian almond frankensoap to finish out the week with an SE Sunday. Then onwards on Monday and Tuesday with two Haslinger soaps - Coconut and Schafmilch.

    Razor: Schick G8 injector
    Brush: Omega Hi synthetic
    Lather: Route 66 Lavender Woods
Post: Witch hazel, Stirling Executive Man aftershave
    WTG

Quick evening shave. Just one pass to reduce the stubble to acceptable limits. I'm not as smooth as I would be after my normal routine, but that's okay. The Route 66 worked up superb lather in no time and the G8 was smooth and comfortable. No complaints.

    Have a great Sunday!

    Trials and Tribulations

    June 10

    Razor - 1962 (H1) Gillette Slim (9)
    Blade - [IMG] (3)
    Soap - Arko
    Brush - WCS Synthetic
    Post - Alum

My last two night's shaves have featured a slightly different lather problem. Last night, the JR46 ended up giving me a bit of a dry lather on the first attempt, due to me shaking too much water out of the brush after the quick dip and soak. I corrected that easily enough with a bit more water added as I lathered and the Arko produced. Tonight the West Coast brush was still holding about 2.4 gallons of water after its quick soak and shake, so the start of lathering produced a torrent of runny soap and a barrage of soap on the mirror and adjacement area. That's a harder issue to fix as shaking it at that point doesn't release any water. But, I managed to get it down to a great lather with a bit more work and a lot less pressure on the brush.

As for the shave, Slim wide open and ready to go, it was smooth and only one minor problem of a tiny nick on my right cheek near the cheekbone. That is something that happens occasionally and I blame it on adding a bit too much pressure at that spot, especially with an aggressive razor. So, I'm not blaming that on the blade. Alum stung a bit in places so the blade definitely was more aggressive in that setting. Clearly a bit sharper than some but not so sharp as to become harsh.

The Super-Max Platinum scores an "A" in my book. Three shaves, all very near BBS and no blood caused by the blade. Is Super-Max the value leader in DE blades? Not gonna rule on that yet. Tomorrow I'll move to the next one, keeping the Slim in play. The next blade up is the Super-Max Titanium. I'll be on my best technique for sure with this one and on alert for any extra irritation or problems. As I mentioned before, I have a reaction to a titanium ring if I try to wear it more than a day or two at a time. If there's a titanium sensitivity I suspect it will show up even more by dragging a hyper-sharp blade coated in it over my face. Breaking the skin isn't an option. And, yes, if there is any sign of a reaction at any point with the titanium blade I'll call that one to a halt and take the other one out of the trial.

Hope your weekend is great so far! My Friday is tomorrow and I'm ready for it!! I had planned some down time for my weekend but have a problem.

It was 99f (37 for all y'all in Canada) on the high prairie today, so out comes the Osage. It's one of the best menthol choices for a hot day, but be sure not to get nuts with it. Threw down day 47 on the Arko Challenge, did a little two pass shavette Kung fu, and alas, I am one of the cool kids again. Continuing to focus in shavette routine is paying off, it's become as easy as an injector shave at this point. Tomorrow, Sheep Sunday and probably some FW. About to read the day's goings on whilst enjoying a pipe in the warm prairie air. Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado.

    Have a superb Sunday!

Master razors one at a time. It's the way. Play with blades and soap. Changing handles regularly confounds technique. Soap and AS are where variety is fun. I've got really bad news. If you listen to us long enough, all razors will be the same, and you can just buy whatever looks cool, because you'll be able to drive them all. This thread is full of guys who are living proof of this.
