    June 12, 2017- Focus Digression

Razor: Post-War English Tech w/Aluminium Baseplate and Handle
Blade: Dorco STD-301 (Family Dollar) (2)
    Brush: Razorock Plissoft 22
    Cream: KMF fragrance-free
    Post: Alum, Listerine, WH

I wish I understood why this particular razor and blade combo works, but it does... at least well enough. The shave, while not the most pleasurable at times, is better than either of them has been able to give me by itself. A DFS which is enjoyable in a warm beer and Lucas electronics sort of way.

I really wish I understood the differences between the Dorco DE blades better. I'm starting to wonder if they are like Duff Beer:
They start out with one line of blades. Some of those get picked to become STD-301 blades for sale at the Dollar Store; the rest get a Platinum coating. Most of those go on to become the ubiquitous ST-301 Platinum blade. A select few, however, are pulled aside and selected to receive a second Platinum coating and become STP-301 Dorco Prime Platinum blades.

June 12 - More Mystic Water...

    Merkur 34C
    GSB (Day 2)
    Jason's 30DC Brush
    DIY PSO
    Mystic Water Coconut
    Alum/Thayers/AOS PSB

Today was Mystic Water Coconut. wonderful scent. Not too strong but has a nice warm coconut scent. When things smell warm, I always thing they have some vanilla in it since that gives me that sensation. this has that kind of warmth as well. This soap does use a coconut fragrance oil so maybe I am detecting something vanilla like but there is no indication of it on their website. I was more careful whipping it up. I got a very light but dense lather that was wonderfully slick. This was lighter than the B&M Reserve I just used. Good post shave feel. I find I am more of a tallow man since , in my experiences, tallow soaps seem to give a denser and heavier lather that I tend to prefer. This is not to say that vegans cannot do this as well just that I found most of the tallows seem denser to me.

GSB did well but left me irritated. 3.5 passes to a DFS+/BBS. I had enough lather from this soap for at least 6 passes. Neck stung with the alum application. finished with AOS Post shave balm and YSL L'Homme cologne. I think it paired nicely.

Today was a stellar shave to start the week. I'm loving this smiling blade. This was as close as I've ever gotten to BBS with two passes from a straight. I also have no razor burn in the problem areas I am working on. Great way to start the week.

Every Fatboy (and one Slim) that's come through my den with the exception of one with a stuck adjuster has had a test shave. The thought being there may variation among individuals. I had no problem trading off the Slim because it did feel different. Otherwise the Fatboys were very similar. When I test shaved with the E-4 that Neil got I may have mixed it up and sent "my" E-4. They performed identically, and were both decent high user grade.
If you haven't yet, consider a deep cleansing, maybe even an ultrasonic like @Bookworm uses. With the tiny close tolerance parts some mineral oil lube wouldn't hurt. If replating is going to come check @LOOT 's posts in The Toggle Thread (TTT) about Capt Murphy's services.

    Amazing photos and gear, Gents!
Can you take a pic of all four sides of the head on setting 5 ? Sometimes there are easy tweaks you can do to realign.
Glad you are enjoying the Krona, they don't get nearly enough attention.
I hope her recover comes swiftly this week.

My bets are this blade will really shine with more aggression. #HereComesTheBaby

    Schick E3 w Personna (6, I think...)
    WD HM Badger
    Palmolive Classic SS
    Thayers Unscented
    Barrister's Reserve Cool AS

On Injector focus still. Loaded up a Personna twin blade courtesy of @Screwtape in the I1, but decided against starting with it until tomorrow. Hadn't shaved since Friday morning as we had a family camping weekend and didn't want the first shave with the twin to be on 3 day's growth. I wanted to see how a combo I know did with the beard, and will shave with the twin tomorrow morning.
The E3 had zero problem mowing down 72 hours worth of whiskers, even after I got a messy, runny lather. I like this big badger, but not with a shave stick rubbed on my face apparently. 3 passes to a near BBS, finished off with the fantastic Cool AS. Ordered the soap on Friday along with some Chatillion Lux aftershaves. Can't wait. NB '18 is in the cards...
    Have a great day all!

You can generally tell which soaps use vanilla because they will turn brown as the vanilla oxidizes. I couldn't tell by your write up but all Mystic Water soaps are tallow based and many have lanolin added as well.

    La Toja

    Stirling Mountain Man

Still working on the bowl of La Toja, after last night shave I can see some of the green from the bottom of the bowl starting to show through the soap though. I let the Clix fall into a slightly more aggressive angle yesterday and it performed beautifully. A nice very close DFS+ was had after 3 passes. I followed up the shave with a splash of Stirling Mountain Man AS (My first time using a Stirling AS Splash) and my face felt really good and I got a compliment from SWMBO that she liked the scent! Have a great day friends!

The "Soap Destroyer" will be the end of the La Toja.

Your skill/technique level is no longer suited to "newbie" mild razors. You self diagnosed correctly. The Fatboy is a iconic design, but in my experience, is best at settings 7 and higher. The curve and tension specs you write about are the reason.

Day 2 of the Gillette on Gillette on Octavia Noir. Definitely a smoother, better shave this time with more water in the lather. Only went with a 2 pass shave this morning due to time constraints so not as close of a shave.

Good luck with your Monday and happy shaving!
