  1. How about an ale or cider? Pint or half pint?
  2. Cool. I have that app as well.

  3. I felt like a cop in a donut shop!
  4. Works like a charm, too. It's a whole different experience. A lot of tactile response but not in a bad way.

  5. Oh sure, go for the cheap laugh :D
  6. Thanks for all the responses, guys. @Linuxguile , I'll post the pictures momentarily. @Bama Samurai so the difference with the Slim is basically the size/angle of the cap? In theory if I dialed up the Slim to 7 and the Fatboy to 7 should they shave similarly or no?
  7. From what Ive read I seem to remember seeing the slim is more aggressive than a FB? I don't have a slim so forgive me if Im off base.

  9. The doors look a little misaligned on the 4th pic. Do they both close tight on all the setting? The gap between the blade tray and the end caps should be even and uniform when looking at the razor from the side. If it is off a little you can take a crescent wrench and tighten it on the end cap and slowly and carefully raise the droopy side a little. this should fix the door alignment and allow them to both lock down at the same time. The good news is the blade gap looks to be good on both sides.
  10. Even with the ultrasonic, I still add oil. Sometimes mineral oil, sometimes sewing machine oil. For the really cruddy TTO's, letting that oil soak in seems to help loosen old crud, so the next time I fire it up in the vibrating chamber o'doom, the oil boils out, but so does even more crud that settles to the bottom.

  11. Here is an example of a badly misaligned Fat Boy that I fixed with the method. In this example one of the doors wouldn't fully close

  13. @BaylorGator, based on my sample of using one each of the Slim, BB and Fatboy, they shave with similar aggression at each setting. The Fatboy head is a bit thicker than the Slim so it is a bit different to use around the nose but the actual shave is similar.

I can't see anything obviously "off" in the photos - the blade seems equally level on all sides. Is the one end cap holding the door hinges very slightly crooked? If so, straighten it gently as Andrew suggested.

My guess is that you may have a partially stuck mechanism due to crud build up inside the handle. If you have an ultrasonic cleaner, dump the razor in it in a mixture of hot water and something like Dawn detergent and vibrate the crap out of it. Multiple sessions with soaking in between will bring out a surprising amount of gunk. Then drizzle some mineral oil in, let that soak, and then do the cleaner again.

If you don’t have an ultrasonic cleaner, you can get similar results by soaking the razor overnight in Dawn dishwater (with the doors open), rinsing it off, then soaking it overnight in a bath of mineral oil, rinsing off, and then doing the Dawn again.

You might also want to see if you can get hold of another Fatboy to compare. Then, when this one seems fixed, have it coated by Delta Echo and have a pair of Fatboys - one custom coated and one original plating... :)
