IMG_1732.JPG This is almost like that Sesame Street game "which one of these things doesn't go together". Easy answer. Surgery planned for this weekend.

You know, when I started this hobby I thought "Who in the world would need more than one brush, and why would anyone have several? That's just stupid right?" Little did I know that I was soon to become a mad scientist brush surgeon. A brush isn't worth having if you can't dial it just like you want. And you've got to have variety. And it's got to look good and perform well, which means you may have to move a knot a few times and maybe drill out or shim up a handle or two before it finds the right home. Am I wrong? Can I get an amen from the congregation?

In other news, based on the above, I think I figured out what percent group I fall into.

The weekend is here at last. Happy Saturday. I received the Dirty Deeds Arroyo Cactus soap as a Shavey from Adam @Drygulch. I am not sure what an Arroyo Cactus should smell like so my take away would be a light floral scent with a background of citrus just overall a really crisp clean scent. I found the soap easy to lather, slick and enjoyable to use. Up again today is the OneBlade Core. The Core is a razor that I believe you need to throw out your learned technique and approach it more like a cartridge razor. If I try to control the angle the Core wants to glide across the lather. I have found it really works best if you maintain constant pressure and let the pivot control the angle. I know I am right when I get that velcro sound. Two passes and touch ups and I am near perfect BBS with the exception of my lower neck. The shave was smooth and comfortable with no hint of irritation. The razor is just stupid easy to use and delivers great results. I finished up with a splash of Fine Fresh Vetiver and am off with my youngest to run errands. I hope everyone has a great Saturday.

I would have to say that Lee at Wet Shaving Products packs his pucks so tight that you could complete 10 shaves and still be "a bit shy of a full puck".

    NCoxSTL AAACK!

Well, many of us started this hobby with the belief that you needed the right razor, blade, brush, soap/cream and once you had that grail setup the savings would pour in!!! After all, you really only "need" one of each. I have tried my best to go minimalist and had a good thing going up until late last year when the enablers started sending soaps. That trend continues and that has resulted not only in added soaps, but added brushes as well. I'll take the responsibility for the razor collection expanding. That's on me. And the however many thousand blades I have as well. My doing as well. But the viciousness of this group, hidden under the guise of friendly and helpful faces, will rip out your soul and fill your den with more and more stock until you realize you're trapped!! The only way out is to give it all away (no, not that brush, it's one of my top three) to those who are starting out (not that soap either, it seems to work great) or just to be a nice guy (hey, I know I have three of those razors but I have plans, y'know?) :angry032:

I don't think I posted my last couple shaves. They were great uneventful shaves. I'm really enjoying the Astra SP in the Gillette and getting just so close shaves.

This weekend I might give the Fatip Piccolo with a Derby blade courtesy of @Bookworm :D

Thank you for the the well written justification. I'm going to share it with my wife. Wish me luck my 40% brother![IMG]

The Fatips are great shavers, they just need a really light touch. That, and watch your angle. The curve of the head means the angle of your handle isn't going to feel so intuitive. Also make sure the blade goes in lined up straight. You may have to fiddle just a bit. Have fun!

This is the soap that I won from the MAYhem awards. I'm liking it a lot. It lathered up very easily and smells wonderful. I'm not sure how to describe the smell. It's not a pipe tobacco scent, in fact I'm not sure I detect much tobacco at all. I really like the scent though. I'm going to like this one. Thank you @Drygulch!

Big thanks to Fuzzy @wchnu for the Vie Long Horsehair brush! I'm gonna enjoy this bad boy for many years to come! He was a LITTLE tangled up and needed to be combed out a bit before his first use...

Full pucks are either pucks that have never worked or pucks whose efforts no one appreciated. It's almost always a compliment to be shy of a full puck.

The handle has a stainless rod for added weight. The plastic reminds me of a Glock type plastic.

I can now appreciate why some people really like the OneBlade Stainless model.

Fortunately, I have a system for the "minimalist" thing. The picture below represents my territory in the bathroom. If it doesn't fit there, I don't keep it.

Fortunately there's a lot of room behind the mirror…

From here on out, it's just a matter of keeping it chocked full of my favorite inventory, and culling my least favorite as I go.
