I think some shave gear is a work of art itself. I get to do art with art.

Used the Fatip Piccolo with a Derby. Either I need to do a focus on this razor and blade or switch to an Astra SP. The alum told me I did not do good. I know the Astras agree with my face more than the Gillette Silver Blues in the Gillette razor so that could be it.

On the brightside I have an extremely smooth face...it just doesn't feel as happy.

Since the Fatip is more aggressive than your Gillette and requires a lighter touch, I would guess you used a little too much pressure and/or the angle was a little off. Try another blade but pay attention to the pressure and the angle as well.

Oh, not you, Sir. I was recalling what another TSD member had said. As Collectors of shave gear there's justification because we Use the stuff. There's exceptions for those that have NOS pieces, but vintage user grade razors found in the wild are decent priced. The upside being that you can use your collection. It's not just trophy cabinet dust collections.

You're still right! I definitely fall into that category...I'm not a "collector" in the true sense of the word. I don't own anything that I won't use. You won't find a curio cabinet in our house!

And the shaving as an art - yep. Agree there too. It's a skill that I'm trying to learn, and probably will be for years.

I was aware of the reputation of the razor and was trying to go slow, why I waited until the weekend to use it, and trying to focus on the angle. But I'd be lying if I said I applied zero pressure and had the perfect angle through the entire shave.

Awhile later my face is feeling better and it's such a close shave. That Octavia Noir leaves my face feeling so very soft too. Like ridiculous soft.

In my experience so far the Astras have been the only blade that has efficiently cut down the hair at the ends of my moustache on the corners of my mouth. I got it with the Fatip and Derby but had to go straight ATG instead of just XTG towards my nose.

Well, I blush to confess it, since eucalyptus oil is supposed to be so good for the skin and is used in a number of good soaps, mainly Italian -- and I own at least three of them too -- but ... that cartoon does rather sum up my sentiments on this ingredient...

I just need to decide if I will use these soaps enough to justify keeping them anyway or if I should PIF them and be done with it.

One of them, of course, is my Proraso Green shaving cream, then there's a Vitos Eucalyptus shaving cream that makes the Proraso smell mild by comparison, and the Omega soft soap is somewhere in between.

I think maybe I need to do a mini-Focus and decide. I have a couple of weeks worth of full soaps to try still, and then three weeks worth of soap and cream samples to go through (assuming my order from Maggards ever gets here in the first place). After that, I think I will spend a week using straight eucalyptus soaps and see how I feel about them then.

The Alum is telling you that you are not riding the cap enough. Astra would be worse in all likelihood, because it's sharper. I'd try again with Derby.
