I love the idea of adding lime EO to the La Toja. I bet that was amazing. I am going to have to try that.

I guess. The last purchase form Pasteur's was $340 worth of soaps, bath bars and aftershave balms. Then again, I am still stingy with the quantity I use :). I think with about 60 soaps (Stirling samples and lots of tubs), I should be good for the next 5-8 years!! Then again SAD is something to encourage, not correct. It is so much fun to grab a soap that I haven't seen in a while and enjoy it like it was the first time using it. What I find really impressive is that these artisan soap makers find so many different ways to make soap smell great. It really adds to the pleasure of a morning shave and is a great way to start the day with something enjoyable.

Wednesday June 21 - Institut Karite revisited

    Schick E2 / Personna (? )
    30DC LE Cashmere Maple brush
Institut Karite extra gentle shaving soap
    Alum and leftover lather

So far, I have a couple soaps whose scents do not enthrall me but only had one whose performance was poor. The first time I tried it, Institut Karite cleaned, hydrated and rejuvenated my skin beautifully just as advertised, but slickness was totally lacking - my razor continually stuck to my face and was reluctant to move. I thought it might have been operator error not using enough water so I tried it again today.

This morning, I face lathered the soap. A damp brush loaded with soap applied to a dripping wet face. And I dipped the brush tips in water halfway through as well. This time the lather started out runny and spraying everywhere and gradually thickened up a bit. absolutely no problem with lack of water in the lather today!

No problem with performance either. The light little Schick injector positively whizzed across my face on the slick coating. Two passes and no touchups to a BBS. One tiny weeper on my lower lip where I slacked off on the skin stretching for a second, but a dab of water sealed it. Other than that, no complaints from the alum. I used a handful of excess creamy lather squeezed from the brush as a postshave balm. It left my face feeling very clean and soft but a tiny bit dry.

I would now say that Institut Karite is an excellent soap, especially for those with scent sensitivities or with skin problems who need a very plain, gentle soap. You just have to be sure to add enough water when preparing your lather.

My Maggard order is out for delivery today, a day early. Too bad I've already shaved today. There will be some sniffing and sorting going on tonight. And no, @RetLEO-07, not the kind that needs to be investigated.

Happy Solstice everyone!! The longest day of the year is upon us and it's a beautiful sunny day in STL. Not only is it the Solstice, it's also my anniversary. Here's what I looked like 6 years ago today.

Do you have issues with excessive scent? If it's a good soap but you desire more power - add some!

Shop around because prices vary. Health food stores, beauty supply shops, and well stocked pharmacies. A splash of AS of the day works well, too.

You add Tabasco to your shave soap?

Heehee! No I was checking to see if anyone was paying attention. I've been treating an unsightly toe nail fungus with the tea tree oil. Had the Lime and Patchouli EO's for a while. Haven't tried Canoe as a soap additive, but Pinaud Clubman or Lime work very well. The Tabasco bottle was right there when I set up the photo so I slipped it in. I think it came out of an M.R.E. from years ago. The sauce is almost dried up in the still sealed bottle.

    IMG_1760.JPG Today's shave was eventful!
First, I used my newly improved 30DC LE brush, now loaded with the Stirling badger knot which I extracted and transplanted to the 30DC handle last night. Probably my easiest transplant job, as the Sterling handles are more pliable acrylic and they do not shatter. The old knot came out without any issue whatsoever. The performance and looks of this brush are second to none. From 1 to 10 I would rate this brush a BULLY!
Second event for the shave was the newly acquired Chiseled Face Santa Paula soap. Growing up with an orange tree in my backyard, I'd say the scent really delivers! Another rating of BULLY!
Third, I took out the dovo and did a full WTG pass today. I skipped the chin and mouth area since I just don't have that down at all, but was able to do cheeks and neck with no weepers or nicks. Did one XTG pass with my slim and literally had to check if the blade was in it it was so smooth by comparison. This may have had something to do with the special Olympian who stropped the Dovo blade last night. By all accounts he wasn't too swift. Went back to the Dovo for an ATG pass on the neck and cheek, and then did a follow up ATG pass with the slim for cleanup. Not a great job with the straight, but no injuries, so I'm counting it as a win. Another BULLY!
