Just a little. Glad I upgraded from 14 inch original stock wheels to 16's. I could hear the water slapping underside of the floor pans in my Ranger. I don't let a bit of humidity stop me from enjoying a smoke. Cubed up some H&H Marble Kake, topped it with a pinch of rubbed out for tinder. It goes well with a cup of dark roast coffee & French toast flavored creamer.
If I had a covered patio I would enjoy smoking a pipe while watching it rain. That's definitely one of the requirements for my next house.
Popped open a fresh tin of Solani 656, loaded the Peterson 314. Sunshine on the front porch, though the yard is squishy.
According to this information Peterson's "System" pipes are not built for filters. Some may be overdrilled to fit one, but they suggest letting the factory do the modification. The interior diameter of the stem is about 5mm, too small for a 6mm or 9mm filter without the mod. My particular is marked "K&P, Peterson's" on the nickle plated Army mount band. On the stem,"Peterson's System Standard". On the obverse side the number,"314". It does have the P-Lip mouthpiece on the bent stem. The finish is unlike any photos I see. It's not Rustic, but not the Smooth. While it is smooth with wood grain showing there are divots cut over the surface of the bowl & bottom of the shank. I purchased it used from a thrift shop & of unknown vintage. Judging from the oxidation I polished off it's a Vulcanite stem.
Yesterday evening, Drew Estate Meat Pie in my meerschaum, one of my favorite pipes but not one of the best smoking. This morning CM in a Legend.
I have seen one Peterson system pipe on ebay equipped for 9mm filters by the factory. It looked similar to standard but had a very wide stem. As usual, the exceptions make the rule.
75% Carter Hall & 25% Perique in Schowa Selected. Cup of Dark Roast and EDC pouch stuffed with more of my every day blend. Think I'll go cut grass if it's not too muddy.
I use to smoke pipes, years ago, and just found this one. It's an unused Meerschaum, that cost $12.50. No chips or cracks. Any thoughts? Do these type smoke cool or hot? http://m.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-FACE-PIPE-UNSMOKED-LOT-LOU-33-/162547806555?txnId=0#vi__app-cvip-panel
About finished withthe classic flake @Bama Samurai sent me. My MM's love it. I had a bowl on the way to work again yesterday. You need window vents. Might get wet when it rains.
Cool or hot? I'd say neither, but maybe a bit more moist than Briar. As long as you pack with a light hand, you can always pull slowly and have a great smoke from almost anything. The patina those pipes develop is wonderful. What did you like to smoke?
I learned pipe smoking with a bunch of old guys in Alabama. Always Briar. Of dozens of pipes over my life, I've only had one. It met its destiny on a garage floor. Sad day.
