Attention Darksiders

A friend shared photos with me of items that belonged to her Grandfather, who was a professional barber in northern Indiana. The G&F razor looks to be in fantastic shape, and I have read that they are great shavers. The Radio Stropper Outfit appears to be unused. It makes me wonder if he also used a GEM razor in his business. There's also a well-loved badger brush and a finishing stone (?) box. If you know anything about these items, I'd be happy to pass the information on to my friend. Thanks for looking!

sometimes I do get the feeling that my "hopeful readers" have ESP.

A bowl of Arko waiting for me and a mug of Williams. those are open. also a stick of Palmolive and a bowl of Wilkinson Sword. I don't want to keep too many different kinds of soaps around. (Well, I have another four or five Williams, unopened, and 7-8 sticks of Arko...)

Don't think I'll try RazoRock soaps again. If they're anything like the Rosa whatever I got before, they overperfume. That one had a reek like RAID, but also had too much reek. (Didn't like the perfume, and there was WAY too much overall perfume)

 

I have this happen most often when I don't pay attention to my fingers. If the knob moves freely (as I expect they did when they were first made - no corrosion or soap at all), then it can easily move a bit when flipping the razor around to use the other side. (or changing hands). (edit - usually it's my little finger hitting the knob)

My other surmise would be if you over oiled it as part of maintenance. The thread could back itself off from the spring stress of the blade being clamped down as you move it around. (the force of the 'spring' amplifying the small vibrations of movement)

My 30DC did awesome work on the Williams today. Perfect setup for the G8 to get it done. I was pressed for time so no pics.

 

I have a Giesen and Forsthoff Adoration and it's a wonderful razor. It takes a great edge and shaves beautifully. She has a very nice heirloom there.

 

I really need to stay away from the BST sites and threads. Too much temptation! My weakness is shaving soap. I've got a great complement of razors and brushes. I also have a great collection of soaps, but there's always the next one you want! I'm a Bit Shy of a Full Puck indeed.

Must. Resist.

Trials and Tribulations

Staying in India and with a Malhotra blade in the Laser Super Platinum. A small adjustment to my trial routine - I'm going to rotate through some soaps other than Arko. Yes, yes, I know the variation makes it a bit less reliable on consistency, but I feel like as long as the lather is quality it shouldn't throw off results enough to matter. If I sense the lather is a problem I'll do a re-shave with Arko to verify. As I've said, I love Arko. One of the best, especially at the price point. My senses are demanding a little more variety and I'm giving in a bit. So, It's the R66 Sweeney Todd tonight and it was a welcome change and really great feel and scent to take on the Laser blade. The JR46 brush appreciated the change of pace as well!

As for the blade, I'm underwhelmed. Certainly smooth, but not a sharp blade compared to others so the mild setting left something to be desired. Managed a decent DFS but nothing special in 2 1/2 passes. We'll hope it improves as the settings go higher.

Okay once again with the usual suspects Blades Grim soap and AS Gentleman Jon alum The Purest Synthetic brush and a Shark SC blade
Today's razor was the Qshave Futur clone it's my first ever attempt at an adjustable so being the rational person I am I cranked it to 6 (highest setting) and went for. I figured after six weeks of focusing on blade angle and pressure how different could it be right. Plus if it went terribly wrong I usually take Friday off from shaving anyways so I can heal if need be. Well what did I get for my confidence and swagger?
Only the best shave I've ever had! I mean seriously there isn't a hair left on the lower side of this face this is unquestionably BBS. As for irritation almost none a little sting from the Alum under the chin but I knew it was coming I slipped a little bit on the curve with a lot of blade gap didn't draw blood though so that's a plus. I'm clearly a fan of this razor only complaint is it's a little slippery better rub the fingers on some alum for this one.

Can't argue with your back stock. Good stuff that works for you is good stuff. I tried a sample of the Palmolive - I'd buy that for a dollar!
