Haven't shaved with it since the epoxy cured but it's perfectly stable. You can just make out the top of the set screw.

Note the curved hood of the Damaskeene family. Not sure why but that makes all the difference, imo.

    Good job.
Is that a Bakelite or plastic handle?

    That is interesting.
Can you take a couple of pictures of the head so I can get a better idea of what it looks like.
My Gem looks like it has a curve head too.
I have seen on eBay where there are razor sets that have Damaskeene on the blade box but not the razor.
I was under the impression that the razor was a Damaskeene only if it said so on the razor its self.

That's about as good a shot as I can get; the profile shows the slight curvature of those few razors' "doors." The rest are flat, and there is a difference.

The handle is plastic, I'm pretty sure. When I rub it I don't get a phenolic smell from it.

Here is my handle I got with some razors .
I am pretty sure it's plastic.

    Here is my Gem 1912
Even if it's not a Damaskeene it is the best shaving razor I have.

I have that top handle too...I think it came with a 2nd (bakelite) Clix razor but I preferred the feel of the longer chunky handle. The Gillette old ball type just doesn't feel right.

I like the look of the Gem handle but it's too small for my hands.
All it's missing is Damaskeene written on it.
I am looking for one so I can compare shaving with the two but I think I'm going to find very little difference if any at all.
I don't like how any of the Gillette handles fit my hand.
Not even the TTO's or the Fatboy I have.
That is why I have bought so many different handles.
As soon as I figure out what suits me the best then there's going to be a fire sale... :happy102:
I wonder how many have said that.

Apart from that stubby fat screwdriver looking handle, the 3 link chain is the biggest stock handle I know of. Tried that stubby one?

    No not yet.
    Only the long one.
    Today was like Christmas.
I got two razor's, three handles and a tuck of de blades.
I have a very nice Valet AutoStrop VC-1 with a strop in good condition.
I got it so I will be able to strop my Feathers for it and the Gem's I have.
I was thinking about shaving with it tonight but I am getting cold feet.
I think I better go with my Gem 1912 until I figure out how to use it and how it feels.
I really should take the day off after I almost took my face off with my dad's Schick G razor.

A Dammy will say it. I also think the curved top rocks!

I thought so but wasn't sure.
I saw one on eBay that the seller said was one but just didn't look right.
I think the case was as the blade holder and blades said it on them.
I don't trust what the sellers say anyway as I have notice that they will use buzz words and be a mile off.
My Gem has the curve in it but just doesn't say it's one.
I'm still very happy with it though.

There are two types of threads on the early razors from what I understand but are no adapters between the two standards. Short of making a custom adapter you would have to sacrifice the head and tap it to take a different thread size.

Early SE and lather catchers use BSW 5/32 x 24
Later SE and Valet razors use UTS 10 x 32
    Modern DE handles use M5×0.8

I think the razor was a way to push the Damaskeene blades. It's still a 1912 type.
