H&H Marble Kake in the Chacom. Having a lazy Saturday morning with sunshine. Nice change from a hectic rainy week.
Derby Club in a Country Gentleman this morning. I snapped a pic and emailed it to myself, but for some reason it didn't make it to my mailbox. Edit - The pic finally came thru, so here it is
Mixture 79 is one I had to try, it's one of those love it or hate it blends and I liked it quite a bit. It's a licorice/floral aromatic that burned very well right out of the pouch.
Half and half mixture of OGS and Esoterica Peacehaven, in the Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation pipe I won in a slow smoking contest, accompanied with my favorite coffee, a medium roast whole bean from Peru, bought at Aldi's. The OGS is from a 100 gram tin; I posted earlier how it seems to have a higher Perique content. Adding the Peacehaven, a golden light straight Virginia reasulted in an extraordinarily smooth and enjoyable smoke. Only one relight in a good size bowl.
A nice evening pipe. The OTC blends seem fitting for cobs, but Virginia flakes seem more enjoyable in a good briar or meerschaum.
Fired up a vintage Pioneer Meer today that I picked up in a lot. IT is nice and dark from a lot of love a previous owner gave it. Cleaned up great and smoked nice with some Prince Albert. I will soon have a couple of nice newer Meers to play with. BULLY!!
Looks like a great pipe! From what I've read on pipe forums, Pioneer's are African meer. They are supposed to be more durable than Turkish, and smoke similarly. But they're stained, and don't color like Turkish meer.
Not all pioneers are african meer, they had turkish meer and even something they called Turkmeer. I bought a new old stock Turkmeer pipe, which turned out to be something like brylon in that it was meerschaum dust mixed with a resin and formed. It smoked very hot. This is a link to a catalog from the 60's. http://pipepages.com/1pioneer2.html
The Skip Elliott smokes better. The draft is unreal. I've said this before, but it seems like it almost smokes itself.
