    wchnu Duck Season!

The Vie-long brushes have been good to me. I have 2 left. I recently PIF'd one. I think the lower loft ones work better.

I've heard Vie Long makes a pretty good brush. I saw them on Amazon for around $20 to start price wise.

Had another great shave with the Williams tonight and followed up with the Aqua Velva Ice Blue. The Williams had good glide and cushion but I suffered a little irritation due to my Gillette Yellow getting dull and I tried to get bbs on a 4th pass, my fault. Should have just went with 3 passes. My Semogue 830 whipped up the thickest lather. It was like MWF. Soaking the puck in hot tap water is the answer. Having soft water helps too.

Glad it works good. The only thing I ever bloom is flowers.

For years I just soaked my brush and not the soap. It would lather but then after I face lathered it it would dry up and vanish before my shave was done. Bowl lathering really works well with the Williams.

Yes it does. I'm thinking about seeing how long this puck will last. Next shave I may try my Vintage Williams to see how it compares. It was a little drying last time I used it so I'll add some glycerine to it after I soak it. I grated it up in my Old Spice mug and infused it with the AV Ice Blue.

Here's a link to a couple vids I did some years ago comparing Old to New Williams with a Tabac control. Don't make fun.

I do it too when I have too much water in with the Williams and the lathers thin.

Just had my third Williams Wednesday shave and it was better than the last one but still not great. I used my Parker Synthetic it's like a boar and face lathered. I did let the puck bloom first started with a dryish brush. I beat the puck with the brush like it stole my lunch money in high school but still couldn't get a decent lather. To be fair even with the dissipating lather there's was plenty of slickness and I got a decent shave with minimal irritation just not a great irritation free shave though. Williams is in the rotation at about once a month maybe next time!

People are still using Williams? I thought it had been discontinued.

I'll second that. I have a Vie Long Epsilon model GC13900/3, and have found it to be the best brush I have ever used. Reasonably priced, plenty of backbone, cloud soft tips, and could lather a granite slab. You can get them from Gifts & Care at http://www.giftsandcare.com/en/88-horse-shaving-brushes. They are in Spain, but the shipping time and costs are reasonable. Mine does a great job of lathering Williams. It is not the very best shaving soap, but certainly does the job.
