Basically babysitting a hurt bird dog this week. Young dog had surgery on a benign tumor, now has eleven stitches in his head.

Me, I am OK. Other than that..all is quiet in Colorado.

Getting deep in here!
Though I have noticed a strange trend with younger guys though. Very feminine clothing with long shirts and skinny jeans yet scruffy unkempt lumberjack beards. Is it like a yen/yang thing? Intentionally ironic?

I tried to get into "the wheel of time" could not do it. But yes have to hold on to some gear for future shavets.

Well, if you look at old photos of lumberjack camps, they wore very long shirts and scruffy beards.

Mostly, I keep seeing the younger males insisting that pants are to be worn around the knees, as if they were in prison. It's been going on for years, and you'd think they'd figure out it's dumb.

 

Been going on since caveman days. Rebellious Youth. My parents did it in the '50's, I did in the '70's, and my kids during the '90's, too. Can't wait for my daughter to go through it with her three kids.

I did the audio books series up to the point when the author passed away. Have not finished the series since his wife and the editor completed it from the outline and notes left for them.

 

I read the "Dune" series.....did not try to read the ones after he died.

 

As I understand it, that's a way of advertising availability in prison. As in "Here's my hind end, take advantage of me!" If they understood the original intent there might be less saggin going on.

 

I had a hard time immersing in Dune. Too many trips to the dictionary at the back of the book to keep up with the new words. Prefer Larry Niven, Asimov, Heinlein, etc.

 

I've been told that by a few people, but the folks I've talked with that _know_ the prison population pointed out that it's mostly due to elastic expiring, clothing being made for the larger end of the spectrum, and not being allowed belts. So you end up with the smaller guys having to hold their pants up, and having too large shirts. I figure that the 'real' answer is probably somewhere in between.

Day two on the Rabbit and I was ready to relax and shave. I chose the Stirling Barbershop to give me super slick lather and great scent. The JR46 did its usual job of making it quick and easy and I went to work. Stropped the razor and started in. First pass was very smooth and no issues. Went to the second pass going XTG and some diagonal areas and had a near miss when it tried to bite on a set down. Caught it in time, which is a benefit over pain sticks. They don't give you a mulligan normally. Did a full third pass just for fun and worked some ATG. No issues but just a very fine DFS finish for all my trouble. No trouble really, actually quite fun.

Another long hot day in STL. Going to cool way down tomorrow though. Only 93 for a high!

 

How's stropping treating you Neal? Are you hanging, or laying it out flat? Tried a paddle type?

 

It's the difference between style and taste. Or they don't have a mirror. Or any real friends who will tell them the truth.

I switched back to the Rockwell 6s from the Schick Krona tonight; I prefer the extra heft. This was my second time using the suribachi. I think for everyday use I prefer my black pottery rice bowl. The greater diameter and depth allow for more exuberance while whipping the lather. Where the suribachi will shine is in using samples and creams that need to be smeared from a tube or tub - the rice bowl doesn't always hold those firmly in place so the brush can work them properly.

It was a good two pass shave tonight. Everything worked well. I am down to my last quarter inch in my bottle of Thayers aftershave. I probably won't replace it. Apart from a bit more alcohol content, it's virtually the same as the normal Thayers witch hazel tonic, and I still have lots of that.

Razor, blade, bowl, and AS been in my den. The soap and brush are first use products. Frank @Fly2High and Randy @BaylorGator tried Dapper Dragon Tiamat and compared notes. From The Pass Around (or Shavey Awards?) I have a tallow but in a different scent. Assuming the base is the same I thought I'd take this Dragon for a spin. Also new to me - my first Semogue brush. Since I don't know how well broken in, and complicated by giving the knot a perfunctory Dawn washing I'll save my opinion about the brush for another day. Nothing negative; soft bristles like a well broken in boar & comfortable handle. But the soap is where I was really Focused. Wet my face with cool tap water, rubbed in a blob of the malleable soap and face lathered. I had a hard time raising a lather so I dug up more soap from the Dollar Store tub. A little more water and agitated - there it is! Decent glossy in the bowl, easy spreading on my beard. WTG pass on setting nine and the scent was very little coconut, acidic limeishness, or that could have been the verbena. Relathering and ATG, XTG, & chin buffing proved the soap can give glide. Having handled blobs from the sample tub there a good bit of residual slick. The scent may be reduced from time in a non-manufacture's container. As it was I'm nonplussed for the flavor but the tallow soap base is acceptable. Alum sparkled a little, but I haven't picked up the Fat Boy in a 30 or 45 days. Pinaud Eau de Cologne alcohol based juice went on smooth for a DFS finish.
(Now I'll go read those other two reviews to see what they thought about Tiamat)

I think I'm definitely more of a Golden Age fan of SF. Of course, that mostly describes my tastes in razors, as well...

The Arroyo Cactus lathered up easily with a light floral citrus type scent that I find very pleasing. Not one to mess with success, I stuck with the same 2 pass routine of a XTG pass followed by an ATG pass. Paying attention and skin stretching reduced the amount of touch ups and I finished with a wonderful near perfect shave. A splash of Floid Blue and I am ready for a morning meeting with contractor. I hope everyone has a great Thursday.
