July 2017 - Time to straighten up!

    July 13

    Razor - W.B. Speed - Rabbit
    Soap - Soap Commander Courage
    Brush - 30DC LE
    Post - Alum

Third night on the Rabbit. The LE brush with Tuxedo synthetic knot and Soap Commander make a very nice combo. Almost instant load and the lather was plentiful enough that we all could have shaved from what I loaded. Good stuff.

Three passes again tonight with only one minor issue near my right ear. I tend to nick myself there on occasion for no apparent reason. Tiny nick, but it will now bedevil me for a day or two shaving over it. Near-BBS finish and the alum was mostly quiet so all in all a very successful night with the straight razor. I'm beginning to think I may have it down to at least a semi-science. If only I could avoid this stropping though. Still drives me a bit up the wall. I keep trying to find some Zen in that time but it seems to elude me. Probably an indication of my overall mental state.

Friday is nearly upon us!! Hope you have a great weekend planned.

    Also @Bookworm

In a shavette, I've found that actual DE blade selection is of little concern, and it's kind of hard to find appreciable differences in brands.

Paul, I am calling you out here.

You have a bucket or other vessel.

    I venture you have ice.

We assume you have water since you sometimes right about shaving.

Don't live life on the bench.

You just set a goal you can achieve with no delay.

Oh yeah, it's the internet, you know the next part...

Understandable. The attack angle is somewhat different. Straights and shavettes have a much shallower angle (From what I've seen watching. Haven't tried yet), which means that they'll give a smoother initial shave (well, theoretically.). De's scrape more, which makes the edge finish a bit more important. Shavettes and straights, as they don't have the guards, wouldn't tend to get the clogging buildups either.

I've now been officially put on a low cholesterol weight loss diet by my doctor. It's not that I'm that overweight, he's just concerned about my liver. (fatty liver?) I also get to have another three or five blood tests, on top of the 10 I already did. Oh, and the echo cardiogram, stress test, and doppler. And a brain MRI. I think they're checking to see if it's there.

    Razors... Yes.

    Liver.... Whoa.

You can probably fix it. Eat real food and drink pure water. Learn all you can on your own about eating and diet. In 2003, I was dying from a chirrotic liver (self inflicted) and my blood work was a mess. I take this stuff quite seriously, and the liver is central to so many processes. Please take care of this stuff, and I wish you all the good fortune in the world on that. It can be a big deal.

I'm not actually that concerned. Yes, I'm going to do some immediate diet changes, but I'm not going to slam my system with an all at once approach. Cutting dairy way down, for example. The reason I'm not as concerned is that my last physical, a decade ago, had the same elevated enzymes. Doesn't change the fact that I'm 35 lbs overweight.

The 'real food' is going to be the hardest thing to do. I'm self-employed as a computer consultant, and too many of my meals are 'on the run', and I go for cheap. Unfortunately, there's nobody out there that sells cheap vegetable meals that _aren't_ loaded with onion/shallots/chives and/or lettuce. Even more difficult, he wants me to eat smaller meals, but more often during the day.

I'll probably be concentrating that stuff over the next few days.

    [edit] - I also don't drink.

I'm gonna take a guess. You've met your out of pocket deductible and now the doctor is looking at brochures for the 2018's about to hit the showroom floor? And he's concerned about your health!

Sometimes a simple graph explains the issue, here's mine.

    XKCD for the win!

No, he's not actually charging me for it. I do his IT work. I'll be getting most of the cardiology stuff for free, and another customer has offered to get the MRI done for me. Unfortunately, right now, that's my health insurance. (I'm trying to get things better)

It's ok to be a bit jealous of this shave set up. The 1910 junior bar knocked another one out of the park. It was my first use of the Musgo Real shave cream. Awesome scent and lather. I have both a short and long handle version of this razor. The long handle means more to me because that razor was a gift after The Original Safety started. The short handle is actually better to me. Viva la SE Revolution !!

I turn my back and while I'm looking away, the Shave Monkeys sneak in and add another 4 1/2 pages to The Thread...

Gillette SuperAdjustable on #3 / Topaz Platinum (1)
    30DC LE Maple Cashmere
The Red Green Duct Tape Special frankensoap
Alum and Thayers Witch Hazel Astringent Aftershave

I went back to using my black pottery rice bowl for lathering; I like having the extra room to whip. I also dug out a razor from the rack that hasn't had any attention for a couple months. Typically referred to as a Black Beauty, I can't call mine that because it is neither anymore. It still works perfectly mechanically however and reminded me again why I like my three models of Gillette adjustables so much. I am also reminded of my intention to send the three for matching recoatings somewhere -- a project I should try to get off the ground in the next month.

For the rest, everything worked well together tonight and resulted in a pleasant, drama-free shave.

    Blade: Chinese Schick
    Razor: Schick G1 injector
    Brush: Omga 10049 boar
    Lather: Mitchell's Wool Fat
Post: Witch hazel, Fine American Blend aftershave
    WTG, touch-up

The touchstone shave of gear and software at least for me! The G1 was my first injector and is my favorite. Smooth, comfortable, efficient, easy, and on and on. Great razor. Mitchell's is great soap and Fine American Blend is terrific. The Omega 49 boar is a solid and reliable brush that is quite inexpensive. It always comes together for a nice experience.

    Have a great day!

Another great shave to end the work week. The Reef Point Test Depth is easy to lather and the scent is a crisp clean citrus aquatic over a base of vetiver. Since it is Friday and I have the time, I went with a normal 3 pass shave. With continued focus, I am getting better results on my neck. Overall another near perfect shave. I finished off with a splash of witch hazel with menthol followed by Cool Water EDT. I hope everyone has a great Friday.
