Sorry for the overly long post today. Took a big leap forward with straights, and there was a lot to share. Hopefully somebody else learning straights will find something useful.

Speaking of which, is there a thread for straight razor learning? I see lots of random threads in the straight razor forum, but nothing for general instruction like I find here in the 30DC.

    So far this month.....

I have only been home a day or two a week for the last couple months, so most of my shaves have been with the Feather DX, whatever synthetic I picked for the trip. I kept "photo-ing" all of them for a while intending to post, but the repetition wasn't even all that interesting to me, and they were my shaves. Too tired and not enough time to try to find interesting ways to do it, I sort of gave up, and can sum them up in these few pics:

The blade of choice has been the Feather, but I have been bringing a safety razor along too, just for the variety. So one could call it:

    - Feather DX/Alumigoose/Shick E
-Simpson Duke 3 Synth/Maggard Black Fiber Synth/Manhandled Woods Ubersoft
-Asst. Stirling or DR Harris shave sticks/Arko
    -Stirling A.S./Florida Water/Krampert's Frostbite

I have sort of re-discovered my liking of Arlo this year. It is fast, slick and cheap. The awesome scent is just a bonus. I have probably been using it for half my shaves the last couple of months.

I haven't been shaving on Monday's because I've been too darn tired, and Friday's have been hit or miss depending on when I get home. Saturday's have been pure leisure day's with everything being "Dealer's Choice". The straights have been a relaxing change of pace, and it's always nice to know the stray hairs laying about the bathroom are yours. Yesterday's was this:

    -Portland Razor Co. Hydra
    -Stirling 26mm Finest
-Stirling Electric Sheep Soap and Splash

The Portland Razor is quite likely my favorite straight. The shortened up blade makes it super nimble for final cleanup, and the heavier ground 6/8" blade has never failed to plow through even the heaviest growth I give it. This is just a fantastic razor all the way around.

The new Electric Sheep splash is a solid winner in my book. To my nose, the lemon is more forward and the citronella is less pronounced than in the soap. Being citrus, it is also not an exceptionally long lasting scent, so my vote is that yes, it is safe for public consumption.

Gotta go mow some grass, and my daughter wants to go fishing this afternoon. I have a couple of weeks of local work coming up, so I don't have to pack or travel tonight. Will try to catch up on the rest of the thread later.

    Good to see you guys.

Randy, I think there are several threads spread around. Here is one from my first experience at straight razor shaving. I couldn't make it work well for me and didn't pursue it. But there's tons of great advice in here:

    http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/first-straight-attempt-thoughts-and-questions.53848/

Here is the sticky post for the Straight Razor sub-forum: http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/straight-razor-master-sticky.14946/

There was another thread for new straight shavers that I can't find. But anyway, hopefully these two are some help for you. Good luck!

Good idea. If one gets started, your previous post belongs in the beginning. It is great to see you mastering the straight and sharing tips. Have fun!

    Razor: Schick E2 Injector
    Blade: Personna
    Brush: Razorock Plissoft 22
    Cream: Simpsons Luxury
    Post: Alum, Listerine, WH

Another great shave from the E2, though I think the blade may be starting to show its age. Maybe I'll try the Chick next time.

    Taconic Tequila & Lime SC
    Omega Pro 98, Suribachi
    Schick J-1 & Twin blade
    Alum, Fine SB/IC AS

With a smear of cream still in the bowl, I doubled down for another lather. The Schick with a twin blade installed took a great WTG pass, but lather began dispersing by the end. Coming up a little shy in volume and thickness required another little bit of product to get enough for today's beard reduction. Second batch built, ATG & XTG flowed better. I was able to squeeze enough residual from the knot to get touch-ups done. Alum was quiet, but the Fine Snake Bite burned brightly. A second spritz of Fine Italian Citrus kept the burn going. Call it a CCS+ for a little missed reduction, but no irritation.
    Good Shaves Y'all!
