My shaving combination didn't quite work out this morning. The soap(Fields&Streams)performed well, as usual, but even the Aqua Velva wasn't enough to cool my face. Lesson learned: For using shaving soap/brush in the dead of summer, I need to wait for a less humid day. Thujs, what I have right now is a face on which I could boil water, albeit a well-shaven face.

Paul,Do you do a cold water rinse after your shave ? Have you ever tried Witch Hazel before your AS ? Sounds like your getting some irritation.

Glad you're liking the CB Andrew! I took a flyer on the "Florentine Fern" and I'm glad I did. Very "walk in the forest". Speick pairs up nicely with it.

Paul, I'm in the Deep South where humidity is a way of life. I use a soap and brush each time I shave. It's not humid in my bathroom where I'm shaving, at least not the dreadful humidity of outside. How do the soap and humidity interact for you to negatively impact your shave?

It's a very nice soap with a pleasant scent.

Y'know, I suppose I'd need a chillier soap. But per your question, well, as I say, the shave itself was fine-it's just a matter of face-feel following it. There are times during the summers when Massachusetts and Alabama would feel the same-the only difference is the state capitals! I've lived in Washington DC or metro Boston pretty much my whole life, and I guess I can't come to terms with the fact that the humidity level can be about the same in both areas. Thus, I guess the best way to answer your question is to say that I'm always happy with using shave soap&brush, as I know it will provide a great shave-just would prefer to feel more comfortable later. But come late September, I'll have my soap arsenal ready to go :). Sorry to be rambling.

Well, that's worth pursuing. After my first pass, warm/hot, after the second, cold. Should I do cold both times?

With me, I know that I _hate_ shaving when it's been really humid. I've figured out it's because of the salt and oils that are just floating on the skin. I have to make sure that I do a good wash and rinse on my face, then shaving becomes normal. if I just lather up, thinking "I'm clean enough", I'll end up with that horrible feeling as well.

My shower bodywashes help out in this regard. I like to think I always get quality pre-shave protection.

Grew up and still live in the DC area the weather sucks plain and simple. Very humid and muggy, plus poor air quality on top of it.

I moved a couple hours west air is a little better and less traffic but weather is very similar.

Its worth a shot. Also unscented Witch Hazel can be found at pretty much every pharmacy and even some dollar/discount stores, and really helps sooth irritation and cool things down, at least for me. Do you get a lot of sting from the alcohol in your AS ?
