A brush replicating one manufactured in the '40's, a barely used almost new tub of soap, a blade I've found I like very much, and an old Lady's razor in a masculine pastel color. Doesn't sound so poetic when I break it down, but the total effect came together well. Still breaking in the donor Omega knot so it's got that stiff, scritchy, new boar feel that brings me back to my newbie shaver days. Hardly soaked the brush, shook out and loaded from the full tub in all of 12 or 15 seconds. Generated plenty of lather using cool tap water in the textured bowl, applied to two days of beard, and set razor to face. WTG made me wonder if the blade was taking any stubble but then I reapplied lather I could tell it was just being smooth at reduction. This blade felt great in a Red Tip, less so in a Fat Boy. The Flare Tip head geometry of the Starburst DE works it better. Got my other passes in, plenty of lather though I needed to add a dribble of water to the brush to release it. Alum swiped with just the lightest sparkle, and the high alcohol AS/Cologne reminded me to use no pressure next time. A DFS of the higher degree.

Thank you Clint. This handle is a very good fit for the Alumigoose, both the length and weight work well with this head for me. I haven't used it very much.

I really enjoy using the 30DC boar brush. I find the handle very ergonomic and the brush has proven to be a lather making machine. I appreciate the menthol in the MW Lavender Lime but prefer the scent of the MW Lavender soap or MW Lime soap alone better than the combination of the two. Back to one of my favorite DE razors for the weekend. The Timeless OC rewards a light touch and good technique with an exceptionally close and long lasting shave. Overall a very pleasant shave this morning. I hope everyone has a great Saturday.

 

Too much Aqua Velva came out of the bottle this morning. Drives me crazy.

 

It's easy to say ,"decant". Hot sauce bottle can be repurposed. I like using vintage glass bottles, but sometimes the caps are missing and modern threads rarely fit.

I'm definitely still getting used to this brush as I managed to do what I thought was impossible- run out of Simpsons lather. Not a major issue. I think its that I've gotten used to a synthetic and I need to find the sweet spot for hydrating and loading this larger badger knot. Probably a focus in itself.

Still as close to a BBS as I get when it was all done and no issues.

 

I understand why these JWest razors are so well regarded. This razor is an amazing shaver. I'm still focusing on four passes and had a wonderful shave. I had one small weeper that wasn't the razor's fault. Time to head to the State Fair with my wife

Well today I practiced my ATG straight razor passes using my shavette, causing me to realize that the scales need to be moved both in the "up" and "down" positions to accommodate different angles, and made my real shave less awkward. Proceeded with 2 N-S passes, and 1 S-N pass without incident. Whisker removal was evident, but still a ways off from a DFS without a DE ATG cleanup pass.

I also tried to lather up and shave with different soaps that I'd bought but was not thrilled with the scents upon receipt. Since all are good soaps and none the scents are objectionable I decided to give them one lather before putting them up on the trading block. Bottom line, I'll probably trade them all out. If anyone wants a review on any of the soaps or scents let me know:

An 18 hour stubble disappeared easily under two passes from the Rockwell, leaving me clean, refreshed and ready to face the day...

It's a no shave day for me. It's been a very lazy Saturday. We have gotten a new puppy, so we have pretty much been here all day. I have taken the opportunity to catch up on some sleep with a little nap. Now my oldest and my son are both asking me to show them how to grill some chicken breasts. Can't complain about days like this. I hope everyone else is having a great day.

I'd be interested in hearing your review of all but the Latha Original (I have that one and know all too well it is a performer but underwelms in scent).

 

It has been a good day. The only downside has been a couple of potty incidents in the house with the dog.

Not this time. We have had two rescue dogs in the recent past. One of them unfortunately was hit by a car and killed. The other bit our little baby and another little girl, so we could not keep him. We started over with this dog.

 

oh no...sad on both parts. I wonder if the vicious one came from a dogfighting ring.

 

I don't think so. We found here had a confidence problem, which is probably why he got spooked by the kids. He was fine if adults we around but if they weren't there he got really spooked with kids. He didn't hurt any of them, but he did leave marks on both. Since we have four kids and all of our friends have young kids, we couldn't risk him hurting one.
