There is no such thing as too much Aqua Velva.....ever!

    ATG is against the grain?

It is good to see someone not blaming the dog. Too often people put an animal where it should not be and then blame it for what happens. Some dogs are not kid friendly. Like some old grumpy guys I know.

Kind of a drizzly afternoon. Putting a hold on the outside patrols until it stops. I just took the Surveillance room officer some coffee. Looks like I am FORCED...FORCED I SAY..to take time and catch up here.

As a PSA...remember to wash a new brush out when you get it. If you wait you could grab it one afternoon getting ready for work and forget it's new. I reknotted a old wood handle that came from a Great Uncle of mine. I forgot that I busted up a new Eterna Boar brush for the knot. The Colgate soap had a kinda unique funky under tone to start with today.

I hope everyone is having a lazy Sunday.

Si Senior Fuzzy! Because the "grain" on my face goes every which ways in places, I've simplified my straight shaving to N-S and S-N passes with an ATG DE cleanup for now.

I went with the Boker Straight today with The Body Shop Maca Root cream. The results were great but not without some irritation. I believe I am getting to the point where the blade needs a touch up.

This gets into the "Human-Animal Bond" that I've been reading about of late. Perhaps dogs bond easier with adults because we know how to treat them better with dignity, grace, and all those nice words.

Probably the big thing is adults do not pull their tails and ears and keep after them when they are tired of play.

I finally got my 30DC LE brush set. After seeing @clint64's brush, I decided to get the knot out of my Omega. I just glued it in tonight, so I will use it Tuesday morning to allow it to set.

July 22 - Grand Blade Trial [IMG] Edition

    Razor - Feather SS
    Blade - [IMG] (2)
    Soap - Truefitt & Hill 1805
    Brush - WCS Synthetic
    Post - Alum

I think I can honestly say that there is such a thing as too mild of a Feather blade. I picked up just a hint of some tugging tonight, and on only the second shave that hardly seems possible. Two questions, though. First, is this really just a Pro blade with a guard or do they actually use a duller blade for these? Second, now much does the guard cause dragging just by being there? There's clearly some effect, and more than I remember from the Pro Guard blades.

Now, having seen the guard design on this blade it is clearly the least likely to cut because of how well the blade is protected. So I'm thinking we should assume a bit of a drag on performance. What you trade that for is a safer shave, of course, and one that is far less harsh as well.

Two passes, some touch up and I'm at a decent DFS. Nothing spectacular, nothing bad. And alum is again pretty quiet so there's that. Again, for someone with sensitive skin who wants to try Artist Club shaves, this blade might be great. And, for those wanting to learn without the same level of risk as a regular blade, this one would be a good choice as well.

I have ordered the Pro Guard, the Pro Light and the Kai Mild Guard blade so I can run them all against each other. I read in some places that quite a few regular shavers have stayed with the Pro Guard just because it takes the risk down. Nothing wrong with that, of course, I'm just curious which blade performs the best for the least risk.

Everybody does this. It's how you learn the grips. Eventually your NS and EW will evolve into something more aligned to the map, but you're doing this the smart way.

    Carry on.

    Sunday afternoon shave:

Saturday I had to shave twice and it has only been 18 hours since the last shave but I decided to for a straight shave anyway. It is a rainy time and lots time on my hands so today's razor was a Silverloaf western grind kami. This razor shaves fantastic but I need to make sure my hands are dry and dosed with alum, which means it is slow shave.

This razor has been ultra smooth and ultra sharp, today it was just very smooth and very sharp so before the next shave it will see a pasted strop. Four passes and just one small weeper and dolphin smooth face. The alum gave some feedback but it maybe because I had to shave twice yesterday or maybe I was to aggressive today going for another epic shave.

    Irritation A Closeness A+ Smoothness A Sharpness A

    Razor: Silverloaf western grind kami
    Strop: Drygulch black latigo
    Brush: Elite Razor Manchurian
    Pre: Proraso
    Soap: Tabac
    AS: Fine Snake Bite
    Scent: Tabac EDC

I had an interesting shave this morning. Just before breakfast my wife gave me a tube of Kiehl's brushless shaving cream that she had picked up at the mail yesterday. Not known for my patience, I decided to give it a try for at least the first pass this morning. In hindsight I should have picked another time and a different razor for sure. The Timeless OC takes no prisoners on a good day and showed absolutely no mercy. I made it through have the first pass before giving up. I am happy that I have very tough skin and no visible damage was done but I can certainly feel the experiment took place. With the morning stupidity out of the way, I lathered up with MW Lavender Lime and proceeded to finish my morning shave with much better results and comfort. I hope everyone has a great Sunday.
