Today I tried the Dovo to see if it was sharp enough. It didn't move across the whiskers as smoothly, but when it stopped and I moved it a tad, it was sharp enough to slice into my skin. I'm not sure if a "not sharp enough blade" is responsible for contributing to my faux-pas or not. Anybody have a suggestion on where to send a couple of Dovos to see if they need a touch up or not?

Meanwhile, as much as it annoys me, I'm gonna need to take some SR time off to let these cuts fully heal so I don't keep re-opening them each time I shave with the straight.

Pretty sure my wife is voting "idiot" at the moment. Not happy about the forced hiatus, but such is life, I guess.

Dipping into samples from The Shavey Awards prize package I tried another citrus scented soap. Refreshing Lemon by Palmolive is current production & the sample was fresh and moist. Smearing half of the generous small tub into the textured bottom of a dampened bowl, agitated with a well shook out brush. Poof! Easy lather & room filling scent. It gives thick opaque lather with very nice glide. Not surprising there's also a very strong residual slickness. Three passes + enough lather for clean up duty yeilded a pleasant smooth beard reduction. Not fuss from the alum block. Splash of Pinaud blended fine with the soap scent. This is shave cream is a product I'd consider purchasing, above average stuff.
    Good Shaves Y'all!

It is so funny how acclimated you get to where you live. I have gone entire winters here never wearing more than a heavy sweatshirt or sweater, but when it get over 80 degrees, I am completely miserable.

I like winter, I am just tired of hassling with it. Plowing snow, driving on ice, working outside all day in it....... The worst is only having maybe eight hours of daylight. It gets pretty brutal up here I guess. Lots of people leave here when they retire. Hell when I retire, there won't be any reason to leave. All I will have to do is feed the wood stove and go to town for brandy every few days.

July - Time to straighten up!

    July 22

    Razor -Gold Dollar 800
    Soap - Soap Commander Courage
Brush - Wolf Whiskers Custom Silvertip
    Post - Alum

Thought I'd give the Gold Dollar 800 straight a run tonight. I haven't used this razor much. It's a 6/8 hollow grind and heavier than the Rabbit by quite a bit. I know the Gold Dollar isn't exactly the best in the world but I have gotten some decent shaves in the past. The price was right and, if properly honed, it's not bad.

Stropped it to get ready, whipped up a fine Soap Commander lather with the Wolf brush and went to work. And, I do believe I may have rolled the edge. At least to some extent. Either that or I've just forgotten how much different this razor shaves than the Rabbit, the pain sticks and everything else. I got through the first pass and switched to the Rabbit for the second and third. Much smoother and better result. I'm betting on the rolled edge. I probably won't get it honed again anytime soon as I have another vintage straight I've never had honed. It's a Giesen-Forsthoff that is in good shape and needs to be put back into service. I'll spend my money on that on and not the Gold Dollar at the moment.

Final result was a very nice DFS with no blood or other issues. I'll give the credit to the Rabbit for the finish, but at least the Gold Dollar got me started.

I've had to do the same. It's best to heal or it will get frustrating. You'll get it.

July 23 Sunday night shave - the usual suspects

    Rockwell 6s on plate #3 / Topaz Platinum ( 1 )
    Jason's non - 30DC Cypress Badger brush
My Red Green Duct Tape Special frankensoap and M - Bomb
Alum and Thayers Witch Hazel Original Astringent

A nice chilly shave after a muggy day. Worked long hours this weekend and have a ridiculous schedule this week, so the shaves are going to be welcome breaks. Starting with this one.

Edit: I just realized my two-pass shave turned an 18-hour stubble into a BBS. Go me!

Where did you buy the Dovo razors? If it from The Superior Shave or SRD send it back to the vendor, the both have great service and do great honing. If not then @gssixgun did some razors for me and they all had fantastic edges. Another option is Whipped Dog.

It may not have been the razor but your angle that caused the hair to no be cut. Hold the razor edge parrallel to you arm and see if it tree tops your arm hair. The hair should just 'pop' when the razor touches them.

I finally got a knot set into Jason's handle, and it is a beauty! I could not be happier with how it looks. The barber style handle fits the palm perfectly, and the set of the knot worked out great. This brush is a winner.

Haslinger makes such fantastic lather, so easily, it would be a mainstay if its scents weren't SO light. I like my soaps scented a little on the stronger side, so this one doesn't see as much use as it could. Highly recommend to anyone who hasn't tried it. The pucks are small and cheap, just toss one on your next Amazon order.

The Brian Brown was fresh off a CrOx touch up, and the shave was epic. One thing I know is that when you don't get a lot of den time, you sure appreciate what you go get.

Wife was working, and had the house to myself, so I took a bath in the British Stirling and enjoyed being THAT GUY for a while.

    Great shave.

Even a long weekend is not long enough so it's back to the Genesis for the work week. Test Depth loaded and lathered easily. I made sure to add enough water to thin the lather down just a bit. The shave this morning took 3 passes and some touch ups to achieve a near perfect shave. I expected this would be the case but I am happy that the blade lasted 5 shaves. I am also happy to say that the results on my lower right neck continue to improve. In fact my nemesis area is fast approaching the results on the rest of my face. A splash of Floid Blue and I am ready for the day. At least I think I am. I hope everyone has a great Monday.

Wonderful picture!the razor looks fantastic, as does the brush. Everything looks great against the background.

Tried tree topping on both Dovos and I don't get any hairs cut until I get the blade down almost on top of my skin. Pretty sure both of them need work, despite only a few shaves. Both were bought new by someone else (one was my Dad many years ago), shaved with a few times and sold or given to me. Pretty sure they both need help.

I would second sending the razors to @gssixgun at Gemstar Customs. He is a class act and will do a fantastic job on your razors.
