Cool brush stand - where'd you get it? :git:

Edit: If I read a little further into the thread I'd have seen you already answered this in response to @Douglas Carey. :kngt:

    Razor: Blackland Sabre
    Blade: Personna GEM (1)
    Brush: Ever-Ready 100T w/Tuxedo
    Soap: Oleo Soapworks Montrose Beach
    A/S: Myrsol Agua Balsamica

Three passes for a very close comfortable shave. The soap scent notes are sea salt, dried coconut, eucalyptus, jasmine, carnation, vetiver, driftwood and seaweed. It whipped up a good rich lather in no time. The lather was long lasting, slick and had good cushion and glide. The Blackland Sabre has a good weight and is comfortable to use.

Tuesday brought another shave with the Eversharp Type H or "The Hussey". This razor's head design makes it fairly mild and easy to find the angle. Wish there was a way to put a longer handle on it. Teamed up with Proraso Green it made for a smooth and easy shave. (But it was like being with one woman and thinking of another...ah Bunny, where are you?)

For me a near perfect work morning shave. I really enjoy the Route 66 Bay Lime Twist. The citrus with the bay is a neat twist and works great on a hot humid morning. I did make sure to add a touch more water to make the lather a little thinner and slicker. With a new Feather loaded, I went back to a 2 pass shave with the first pass XTG followed by an ATG pass. By paying attention to my trouble spots and skin stretching as I went the results were fantastic. A splash of F&C Shambala and I am ready for the day. I hope everyone has a great Tuesday.

Today, I used one of the original Gem Junior blades refreshed by @twhite. I gave it 20 strops on the linen and 20 strops on the leather before the shave. This 100+ year old blade did a fine job. I am also liking the wooden handle I made for the GJLC. It was a very nice shave this morning. I am always grateful to @wchnu for the lather catcher. I was expecting to be shaving with my replated Gillette Aristocrat by now, but it seems to be held up in the post. I will be shaving with the LC until the Aristocrat arrives.

How did the old blade compare to a new one?

I used the "bad boy" for the first shave, and it was outstanding. It did sing a bit. How do I compare it? It was just as good. I won't be using modern blades in my lather catcher any more.

Yes I too find the old ones really sing. Glad you enjoyed them. You know where to send them for a refresh when needed.

    Razor: Eversharp-Schick G8 Injector
Blade: Vintage Schick with Krona Edge (1)/Chick (1)
    Brush: Razorock Plissoft 22
    Cream: KMF fragrance-free
    Post: Alum, Listerine, WH

Today's shave was my maiden voyage with a newly-acquired Schick G8. This was a surprisingly inexpensive purchase from the 'Bay and, once cleaned, was absolutely gorgeous. Until now, I've only tried the G1 and, although many people love them, they have not been a personal favorite. (Probably why I've traded two of them away.) I'd read a few comments, though, that made we want to try a later G.

Comparing the head of a G1 to the G8, it's clear that there were some changes to geometry of the safety bar. On the G8, it appears to be larger and extends further. If anything, it seems closer to the geometry of my E2.

Now, about the blade choice... Recently, I asked if anyone had a spare empty magazine as I wanted to cross-load some Proline B blades. Fuzzy was nice enough to send me one from the early 1960s (Eversharp Schick with Krona edge). It actually still had 3 blades in it, though Fuzzy advised I not shave with them as he found them very rough. However, rather than risk losing my Shenanigans License, I figured it was worth trying to shave with one. FYI, these are the gold blades with the Krona edge and are probably almost as old as I am.

So... as expected, the first pass started rough. In all fairness, though, it was far from the worst experience I've ever had. I'd dare say that the Dorco SE blade was worse and the Tian Fu "disobedient" blade was much worse. That said, I was not happy with the amount of reduction at the end of the first (WTG) pass. Regrettably, time has not been kind to these blades and, so, into the bin it went.

For the second pass, I loaded a brand-new Chinese Schick blade. The difference was like night and day with a very smooth shave with excellent reduction. Also, as I hoped, the experience was much more pleasant than my G1 shaves. I'd dare say it was comparable to an E2 shave.

Overall, I'll call it a DFS for the day as I didn't bother to do touchup from the first pass.
