Williams Wednesday's Shave Proraso Pre Shave Williams Shaving Soap Jayaruh #206 Gem Jr. 1911 Lather Catcher Original Gem Cutlery SE CWR Thayer's Lemon WH Aqua Velva Ice Blue I was expecting my newly gold plated Aristocrat to arrive Monday, and I was going to be using it this week. However, it seems to be delayed in Louisiana. Therefore, I am getting much face time with my lather catcher. A cloud with a silver lining. I started off with Proraso Pre Shave. The Williams Shaving Soap face-lathered well with the Jayaruh #206 Badger brush. I did the two passes with the Gem Jr. 1911 Lather Catcher with an Original Gem Cutlery SE blade and ended up with a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayer's Lemon WH and then Aqua Velva Ice Blue AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...
July 26, 2017- Schick Proline Razor: Eversharp-Schick J1 Injector Blade: Schick Proline B (1) Brush: 30DC LE w/Virginia Sheng Pure Badger Cream: KMF fragrance-free Post: Alum, Listerine, WH As much as I loved yesterday's shave with the G8 and a Chick, I put that combo aside to try my other new acquisition, the Schick Proline B blade. There has been a lot of chatter about the Proline blades lately, mostly in regards to the AC-compatible blade (Proline S), but I'd also heard very good of the Proline B blades which are Injector size. I was able to pick up a pack of 20 from a Rakuten seller who offered small package shipping as an option. The cost me just under $10US shipped and were delivered relatively quickly. More info on these blades can be found at the Schick Japan website. (BTW, Neal, these blades are sputtered.) Since the Proline blades come in a magazine without a key, I needed to crossload them into an empty Injector magazine. It turns out that an early 1960s Schick magazine may not be the best choice as it has a thinner slot than a modern magazine. Nevertheless, I was able to load 6 into the 8-blade magazine and fed one into the J1. So, we have a mid-50s razor using a 21st Century professional blade loaded from a 1962 vintage magazine. What's the worst that could happen? In a word- magic. My first impression is that the Proline B is sharp but very smooth, possibly deceptively so. For me, it was an excellent shave that may have passed the baby and gone into dolphin territory. I need to be a bit careful with these blades (or, at least, with my lather) as I did get some tingle from the Alum and one weeper. Ultimately, I want to work these blades through my whole collection though, at the moment, I have a bit of trepidation as to how they will do with the E2. That combo could either be great but very scary.
Great shave report. I have been thinking about getting one of these razors. I really like the wooden handle and I see some come up for sale but have been reluctant to get one because I am not sure what blades will work with one. You said that you used a "Original Gem Cutlery SE blade" What do they look like? Thanks Ron
Valet VC-1 / Kai Best Blade[2] This was a better shave then with the first shave with the same blade in my Gem G bar. One pass with no clean up for a DFS +1 Maybe a BBS but don't want to commit to that as I'm a newbie at this. One week + beard growth and it moved it down like a lawn mower. I'm impressed with this combo. I love the way the blade talks to you.
These razors take the regular SE blades a available. His Gem blades came with the razor originally. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Just have to save my pennies now. Not in a real hurry as I have to see how many shaves I get out of this blade and then a Gem Carbon blade. After that I am back with the Schick you gave me. I'm going to have to look where to get the blades for them from Japan again. Thanks Tom I consider you a wonderful friend.
Modern Gem SE blades will work in the lather catchers. These blades I am using actually came with the razor back in 1911. They are markedGem Cutlery Co NY on one side and GEM JUNIOR on the other. There are no cut outs on the blade. The blade is .007 inch thick compared to modern blades .009 inch.
Razor: Blackland Sabre Blade: Personna GEM (3) Brush: Ever-Ready 100T w/Tuxedo Soap: Oleo Soapworks Montrose Beach A/S: Myrsol Formula "C" The Myrsol Formula C is not a repurchase aftershave. IMO Everything else work great for a near BBS.
