Early Sunday morning shave, test-driving @JR Reyes 's vintage Hayashi Diamond 8000 (cleaned & newly-honed); These H. Diamonds are wonderful razors.
It was a great three pass shave from my Henry Sears. Considering that it was a beast to hone, this razor always surprises me with wonderful shaves.
Another Russian. My 1956 ZTV Extra. Possibly the hardest steel of all Russians I own - nice sharp edge providing a wonderful shave with minimal touch-ups. Da, of course, what did you expect? Today's shave was with a freshly honed loaner razor. I had just got back from vacation, and had a weeks worth of heavy, heavy beard growth. This razor easily, and smoothly, cut through the growth like it wasn't there. The neck area was another story. The heel end is "Wicked". This is a dangerous razor, in need of the heel being muted. It's not mine, so I left it alone. I received two small, almost inconsequential, nicks on the neck. Other than that, it was a very smooth and pleasant two pass shave, with one touch-up, on the chin, that left me BBS. Razor- Williams Hand Made. Western Grind Kamisori. That is truly a 'vampire blade', it has drawn a lot of my blood. I screwed up the edge trying to fix the point and heel, glad to see it was easy for you to hone.
Vintage Sheffield steel: George Wostenholm & Sons 'The Celebrated IXL Razor' 13/16." This old razor has seen a lot of use thru the years (see the evident hone wear), but still delivers an exceptional shaving experience.
Tonight's shave was with an American Razor, that gave the perfect shave. The 2 pass shave was so smooth, it was like the whiskers weren't there. The results were BBS, with zero issues. This is one of my favorites to shave with. Well made, and takes a super sharp and smooth edge. Razor- Shapleigh HDW. Brush- B400 By Tom Soap- MWF(Mitchell's Wool Fat). Aftershave- Pinaud Clubman
