Round one of this week's soap battle is over and I already feel like we have a winner but we'll see how each soap does with a wide open adjustable before the final verdict.

The 400 loaded and lathered the Dirty Deeds Arroyo Cactus easily. The big boar and badger brushes are taking a bite out of the soap. I stayed with the 2 pass routine of XTG followed by ATG . My paying attention to my trouble spots and skin stretching for both passes minimized the amount of touch ups required to end up with a near perfect shave. A splash of Myrsol Agua Balsamica and I am ready for the day.

Kootenay Lake. It is a very large lake, actually.
We lease an RV spot here. Not right on the beach, it is a short walk down.

Thank you, Jim. I think that will be my one and only time hiking my shaving gear to the beach before SWMBO has me committed.

Great shot, Jason. I bet the water is quite inviting in the summer heat!
    Noice!
Very cool, Jim! Try to keep the curmudgeon at bay. LOL
Love me some Smolder! The Qshave is a great razor too!
    Beautiful shot, Clint!

This is my razor. There are many like it, but this one is mine...I must master it as I must master my life. (H/T USMC)

1 August 2017 OLD Blade Focus Shave

Pre: Hot water, lather off the puck and a hot towel
Razor: 1911 Gillette Single Ring OLD Type
    Blade: Rapira Platinum Lux
Brush: JJ#1 USS Belleau Wood CVL-24 tribute brush
    Cream/Soap: Taconic Bay Rum
Post: Hot/Cold water rinse, alum block, cold towelx2, Dominello Vitali Calming Post Shave Moisturizer
After Shave: Clubman Virgin Island Bay Rum

This morning I was in the mood for Bay Rum(surprise, surprise). So I got out the Taconic Bay Rum cream. Well, it looks more like a soap to me, so I treat it as such now. JJ#1 did its usual outstanding job lathering this croap. Taconic is slick, has a nice cushion and smells great. The OLD/Rapira duo had no trouble mowing down my weekday stubble in 2.5 passes. Left me with a BBS shave.
Splashed on some Clubman VIBR and it was off to work. No problem mon!

    Razor: Schick M3 Adjustable (5)
    Blade: Personna Twin Injector
Brush: 30DC LE w/Virginia Sheng Pure Badger
    Cream: KMF fragrance-free
    Post: Alum, Listerine, WH

Off we go on another month. My main focus for the month is trying to master my 30DC brush with its Pure Badger knot. This is only my second badger brush. The first, a cheap Chinese Pure badger, seems to be a completely different beast. The cheap brush is soft but very floppy; I also need to be careful about how wet I get it as it turns into a sloppy paintbrush. OTOH, the Virginia Sheng PB knot in this brush is more like my one horsehair brush- lots of backbone and some scratch. The issue seems to be with getting it wet enough. First pass seems to be good, but then I almost have to start over for the second pass.

Since it is Adjustable August, I decided to kick off the month with the Schick Adjustable. I think it may be nearing time to replace the Twin blade (something I'm hesitant to do as I only have a few) but no issues and a BBS or close enough.

The brush looks great. I don't recall you using it very much.

I decided to start off adjustable August with my Slim. Put a new blade in it, which felt a tad sharper than normal. After the first pass I ooked at the razor and realized it was set at 9 (I usually set it at 5). I also noticed significantly more hair removal than normal, so I proceeded forward with two more passes. Could have probably quit with the second, as the shave was so close. Not to sound redundant here, but many thanks go to the 30 DC who put me on the right path about six months back. Prior to finding this thread I was struggling with whether to stay with DE shaving at all, but after a 30 day rule and 30 day focus have been able to shave with whatever DE or SE has been thrown at me without incident ever since. Shave on, gentlemen!

Thanks. I lucked out when I found it. At the fleamarket you pretty much have to look at every item on a table. Luckily the case was sitting closed by itself. So naturally I opened it.

    NCoxSTL AAACK!

There really is no comparing a cheap badger to a "real" one. I have a Tweezerman that I bought when I first started out. Soft, floppy, all of that. My Silvertip knot in the Wolf Whiskers brush - great backbone, awesome luxurious feel. The Tweezerman is basically there to add water to thing when I need it.
