Stunning brush, Clint! I agree with you about the tuxedo, I find it has more than enough backbone.

The old is pretty good (like all Stirling soap), but I like Stirling sheep soaps even better than their normal, so I bet it is better.

6 August 2017 Pre Fleamarket OLD Blade Focus Shave

Pre: A waterfall of Hot water, soap from the container and a hot towel
Razor: 1911 Gillette Single Ring OLD Type
    Blade: The Voskhod
Brush: JR#161 NY Mets Special Edition
    Soap: Regiment Shaving's "High Speed"
Post: Hot/Cold water rinse, alum block, cold towelx2, Dominello Vitali Calming Post Shave Moisturizer
After Shave: Old Spice "Original" from my WCS Sampler

Prior to hitting the fleamarket this morning, I started the new shave week and the final blade audition for my OLD. Voskhod, the pride of the Rodina is up.
Using JR#161, I whipped Regiment Shaving's "High Speed" into a Lemon Limey, slick lather.
The OLD/Voskhod duo had no trouble with my two day growth. I used a traditional 3 pass shave and as usual with a first shave with Voskhod was BBS at the finish.
Splashed on some Old Spice and headed off to the fleamarket where I found these:

IMG_2047.JPG Today I strayed from my usual Astra SP to try a shark in the Slim on 5. They could be a tad smoother and a tad less aggressive than the Astra for me, but the differences are relatively minor. I also tried Reef Point Test Depth. Another soap that falls into the very good but not great category for me. The puck has a bit of a waxy smelling undertone that I don't love, but it becomes very feint when lathered as the scent blooms. It will stay in my den, but I suspect will be eventually bumped for future soaps that I love more. Finished off with Oceana AS. Great stuff!

Reef Point is so awesome. Maybe you can swap that scent off for something that flips your minnow a bit more.

Maggard tallow soap made by Maria Arman of Thru the Fire Fine Craft. Soft, Italian style sample I tried today. Good strong scent, easy working, with a thick non-dissipating lather. I haven't used this old brush for months. A cider vinegar wash softened it to the point of no scrub. Second use of the Bulgarian blade wasn't as smooth as I like so it got binned when I finished the shave. Between the soap and AS, a nice face feel post shave. Been a long week and it was to be a lazy sleep in day so of course I woke at Zero dark thirty. C'est la vie.
    Good Shaves Y'all!

I had a very underwhelming shave this morning. The razor is an E-bay find, that turned out to be a lot nicer than I was expecting. I honed it this morning, and really thought I had it. I was tree topping arm hairs, pinging and popping, and when I stropped it, it was like it was glued to the leather. It was a smooth, comfortable shave. No tugging, no skipping or jumping, it just wasn't very close. I ended up playing in the DFS ballpark, but the blade just isn't where it should be. Back in my little project pile it goes, I guess.

Wasn't the shavette pictured made of steel? I was making an assumption on the photo. All stainless built two-arm shavettes should be about the same. The difference between, say the Parker and a Classic Samurai, is chrome, and all else should equal. Not a lot of variation in de based shavette. There are only like five major designs.
