1. In his "The Histories", Herodotus tells of the Battle of the Hot Gates, Thermopylae. One anecdote concerns Dieneces, a captain of Sparta and a well known warrior. A native of the nearest town, Trachis, told a group of Spartans that when the Persians loosed their arrows, there were so many of them, they hid the sun. Unmoved by the thought of the strength of the Persian host, Dieneces replied, "This is pleasant news that the stranger from Trachis brings us: if the Persians hide the sun, we shall have our battle in the shade."

I try to remember the above when I am frustrated/fearful or angry. Some human conflicts can't be resolved. Today, I am being tested by that fact. No need to escalate conflict. Honestly, my opinion of someone else and their actions, is not always any of their business, nor do I need to share.

  11. You never had a problem with ME doing that listening to those of Dodger Stadium, the St. Louis Checkerdome, the old Montreal Forum, and of course John Kiley doing it at both Fenway Park AND the old Boston Garden.
  12. I am only 5 years from retirement. And then I will relax and only work eight hours a day.

But by God, it will be the job of my choosing!

  15. Ever drive in Massachusetts? Boston has to be the worst, and I've driven in quite a few big cities, to include several over seas.

  17. Wishing and hoping for better times for all the people affected by floods in Asia and America! It is a horror season, it seems
  18. I have driven in Boston. No worse than Brussels or Paris, IMHO. In fact, Paris was a more scary experience for me!
  19. I loved that man. Freaking fearless. He called it the way he saw it, and you knew where he stood. A man you could have 100% respect for at the exact same time you were disagreeing with him. America could sure use some more of him today.
