I was wondering where my weekly dose of cuteness was... hmmm I thought we would also see some cuteness from @mrchick 's grandson.

    Saturday shave:

I sent this razor out to Whipped Dog for a honing and after 1 shave I chipped the edge putting it back into it's stand. :angry019::angry032: fortunately it was very small and looked the edge had folded. So I rezoned it and finished it on a Shapton glass 16k.

It is a shame QCS went out of biz, I love their performance for straights, a very wet slick lather. I am pretty hit and miss with honing so after the first pass I was happy to say this time was hit, very smooth and very sharp. Four passes and zero feedback from the alum and a dolphin smooth face. Truly an epic shave, A+ across the board.

People say synthetics give a harsh edge but the edges of my Shapton glass 16 are very smooth. I also bought a razor from @entropy1049 that was finished with Gomuko 20k that was very very smooth. I have to say after a few months of comparing the Shapton with a Zulu Grey the Shapton gives a nicer results for less work and less skill. Maybe if I worked with the Zulu more I could achieve a better edge.

    Irritation A+ Closeness A+ Smoothness A+ Sharpness A+

    Strop: Dry Gulch black latigo

    Brush: Simpson Polo super

If you ever get a chance to pick up an SG20K at a good price, I encourage you to do so. It really makes a nice finished edge effortless. A very easy stone to use.

Since I have bought that razor from you it has been under serious consideration.... but it is a pricey stone. :sad027:

True, but if you think about it as the last finisher you'll ever need, that may soften the blow. I've even sold off my prized Nakayama. It's my last finisher because it's that good.

    that help...?

I'm so far behind posting shaves that I'll never catch up, so I'll just hit the highlights. I've (mostly) kept the adjustable focus this month. The rotation has been Gillette Fat Boy, Gillette Slim, Gillette Black Beauty and in a surprise coup, the QShave Futur, which has me somewhat smitten at the moment, what with it being fantastic bang for buck. I've had no bad experiences with any of them, though. My one deviation was one shave with my Gillette Old Type, just because.

The battle of the boar brushes is starting to become a bit lopsided. I have been alternating my Stirling Boar and my Omega 10049 Boar. The Stirling handle beat the Omega handle by a good margin. But the Stirling knot is not keeping pace. It continues to shed at a fairly good clip, and lacks the loft of the 10049 that I enjoy so much. I'm not comparing softness or scritchiness, as the 10049 has had much more time to break in. But the 10049 hardly shed at all and I feel like it releases the soap a bit more easily than the Stirling. If I could put the Omega knot in the Stirling handle, I would have a winner.

Soaps have been all over the place, but I have really enjoyed Tabac a couple of days this week, and have been rotating quite a few Stirling soaps.

I haven't any experience with the others, but I like the Sudsy Soapery Lavender and Peppermint a great deal.

The Puros aftershave is the only aftershave I've bought a backup bottle of. It's strong stuff, but if you like Tobacco scents, it's way up there.

Awesome. Thanks for the plug. Mine should arrive tomorrow. I start my 30 Day Focus tomorrow with Arko as a soap, so I'll have to use the SS on my dome...:D
