I forgot to mention that I have been using the Dorco Platinum Prime blades that the seller threw in with my QShave razor, and to be honest, I've gotten quite good shaves with them thus far.

    Adjustable (Arko) August!!!

August 11 - Grand Blade Trials

    Razor - 1959 (E4) Gillette Fatboy (3)
    Blade - dorco-prime-platinum.jpg (1)
    Soap - Mitchell's Wool Fat
    Brush - 30DC LE
    Post - Alum

Second of the Dorcos tonight. I will admit I have a bit of a hard time keeping a straight face every time I either type or say that name. Dorco. Boy, could I have fun with that. Anyway, it's the Prime blade up for trials the next three nights. This is a newer addition to the Dorco club than the ST-301 that I used the past three nights. Also a platinum blade and, possibly, the same blade in a different package for either a different distribution area or else just to be "new and improved". I'm a salesman. I know why that phrase is so loaded.

Anyway, I decided to go with a slightly modified rule for the Dorcos. Same soap, Mitchell's Wool Fat, same razor, the Fatboy, and rotate through the synthetics with each blade. That's the slight modification - not the same brush every shave. However, it is the same brush for each setting on each blade.

The LE brush was up tonight and made so much lather with the Tuxedo knot that it looked like I was going to do a full body shave. Using the Fat for several nights in a row really hydrates the puck into an amazingly easy thing to load from. Water is the key to making the Fat the fantastic vintage soap it is. It could still easily be my one and only soap, except that I'm easily bored and even more easily entertained by new shiny things.

Two passes and touch up. No blood, smooth feel, nice DFS finish, no worries. Feels pretty much the same as the ST-301 did on its first run with the razor on 3. The theory that they're the same blade rebranded is alive and well, though I won't claim it without direct proof. Fine result either way and I'm happy with the shave. SWMBO is home and happy to get her after-shave hugs and kisses too. She instantly recognized the Fat as the soap used tonight. She has a good nose.

Hope you have a great weekend planned. Work for me as usual then......a job interview on Monday morning. I'm being head-hunted by a major furniture company to become a mattress specialist in one of the stores near where I currently work for Mattress Firm. The offer sounds fantastic, but was pitched to me by one of the VP's who is also a salesman. Guess who a sales guy doesn't trust? Yeah, another sales guy. Like I told my wife....I'm intrigued but I need to separate fact from the hot air factor.

Learning to shave with an open blade changed all my beliefs about safety razors. I treat every shave like it's an open blade shave because I feel that the techniques used with a straight are universal and will maximize the performance of any razor.

    Adjustable Arko August 2017
    Day 11

    IMG_1430.JPG

Yup, yup! Sticking to Arko (Day 79) and a day 3 Derby. Dial back on 7 for kicks. Focused on good skin stretches and low angle. Two passes and the alum declared a winner. It's the weekend. Other than that... all is quiet in Colorado.

    Have a great weekend!

For the weekend, I decided to bring out the Option 5. Since I generally stick with my favorite razors this one doesn't get used much. I bought the Option 5 last year in a moment of weakness. Ok there might have been alcohol involved. ;) I would rate the razor as an efficient medium aggressive razor. With a nice rich slick lather I went with a traditional three pass shave followed by touch ups. I ended up with a very nice shave. My neck is not as smooth as yesterday and I did end up with one weeper. I finished off with a splash of F&C Capri. I hope everyone has a great Saturday.
