Strong Dollar means great prices

Just thought I'd give a heads up to my fellow Americans about the strengthening dollar and buying from foreign vendors. I just bought some Crabtree & Evelyn Sienna Soap from an on line vendor in Luxembourg for $19 shipped which is less than C&E sells it on their site before shipping and taxes. Bought some blades from Paul at Connaught for about $5 less than they would have cost me a few months ago.

Much as I hate to, I recommend using Paypal who seem to charge the least for converting dollars to foreign currency. Rates for the British pound recently were as high as $2 per British pound and are now about $1.5 roughly a 25% discount over what it was.

Hmmm. Out of curiosity, I just looked at the Kent Brushes web site. They list the BK4 at 50 GBP and their conversion shows $101.50. Bloomberg says it should be $77.86. Guess you have to pay attention!!

I see it the other way round as buying in the US is getting more and more expensive for me :rofl

I posted on SMF and a Canadian said the same thing. I looked up their currency on Yahoo. Wow, has it ever gone in the tank.

I have to click a button in TSD Store's program to update exchange rates.

Look at the Gentleman's Shop. Their creams are great prices. You would have to buy a few to split up the cost of shipping, though.

connaughtshaving has MWF in the ceramic dish for under $34 shipped to US. Almost good enough to get a cheapskate like me to try "The Fat".

If you've never tried MWF I would suggest buying a puck of Kent soap. Buy a refil. Its not expensive and its just rebranded MWF. If you decide you like it, than buy the bowl.

The canadian dollar tanked? Guess I may have to take a trip to canada!

I've only tried three shaving soaps/creams:
    Van Der Hagen Glycerin
    Kiss My Face Lime
    Arko Shave Stick

Best shave is tied between VDH + KMF superlather and Arko. The KMF has by far the best scent. TWBW doesn't like the Arko scent, so it is for travel only. When the VDH or KMF gets low I'll go for something higher end. Nordstomn's carries T&H, so I may get that to avoid shipping on TOBS or Trumpers. Of course I'll also be pushing to get some high end stuff for Christmas.

Your being deprived. Throw that stuff in the garbage where it belongs! You've made it this far, just buy some good stuff NOW!

Don't beat around the bush, Jay. Why don't you tell us how you really feel? Come on...you can tell US.

At last!!! I have an envelope of USD lying in a cupboard (long story involving a "Euro" referedum and a bonus payment).. finally I can cash out that!

The VDH I'd be happy to move to the shower, but the KMF smells so good I can't bring myself to do it. As far as buying good stuff now, I'm thinking of ordering some sample from TSD store and deciding from that experience. As soon as the individual cream samples are available I think I'll bring it up to SWMBO.

I'd wait until after the elections. It's an old rule that the USD is weakest a year to a half year before an election and strongest afterwards :D

Yeah... I don't NEED the USD's, but it has been bugging me that that envelope has only been worth less than 2/3rds of what I bought it for...

There are a ton of things that smell a million times better than KMF. JoAnna at the TSD store will make you any smell you want (and she has in EOs and FOs). And the english creams smell great. As do many others. You NEED to try MWF and GFT creams. T&H too. There are many others, but those are a start. Better order every sample TSD has :D

The yen must be a freaking rock, then, because yesterday I bought $1000 at rates that haven't been seen in years.

    True! :D

But then again, my latest AD - shaving soap acquisition disorder - has gone down after buying several soaps from around the world (I think now I have a lifetime supply of shaving soaps). I think in the near future I won't buy anything more, but I can be wrong, what will be my next AD?
