This morning I went back to the Clog Pruf to see how the OC & CP compare. As the devil is in the details here are the details of the shave.
This morning I went with my JR brush. This brush actually started off as a PIF from a nice young lady here who was thinning her brush herd. It was one she set herself but came apart on me from using too hot of water in my pre-soak(I won't do that again). I liked the knot so much that I had Jim set it in one of his handles for me. The only negative thing I could say about the brush is that it's a little light, but still one I will keep in rotation. The next JR brush I get I will have him add some weight to it.
For soap I decided on my self made "stick" of Smolder by Blades Grim. What can I say about this soap. Some guys love it, I'm not a big fan. Don't get me wrong it lathers easy and it does not have an offensive odor to me but there are too many soaps out there to try to keep an okay soap in your den. Once it is gone I will not be replacing it. I may have to offer it to my oldest son, he liked it.
I went with my used PAL blade. This is the blade I used the first time I used this razor and had less then stellar results. After the good results I got from it in the OC I decided to give it another try. I am glad I did. This mornings shave was great, almost heavenly. It felt as though I could do no wrong with it. Very smoooooth. I tried to be mindful of angle and keeping the cap against my face which I believe was the main factor in the good results. After a two pass shave I ended with a DFS. A shave that makes me look forward to the next time I get to shave.
I finished off the shave with a cold water rinse then a splash of Rose Petal WH. In closing what I have learned from today's shave is:
- The CPMM is much milder/smoother then the OCMM.
- Do not write off a razor after just one shave. Come back to it after a while. 9 times out of 10 it was technique that was bad not the razor.
- I am glad I found this place and the people here. They have lead me to the wonderful world of shaving.
