I have had good success with my less irritation focus using settings 4-5 on my Progress. I have tried 7 different blades in the last few weeks and decided on winners & losers, for me. I have used the Progress for 21 days now and I am through with my adjustable focus. I'm ready to use other things. I may start Single Edge September early.

    Great shaves everybody!!

    Razor: Sterling Tech
    Blade: Dorco STD-301 (3)
    Brush: Razorock Plissoft 22
    Cream: KMF fragrance-free

Yesterday's shave went so nicely that I decided to repeat it today. The Dollar Store Dorco continued to perform well in the Sterling Tech for a nice DFS. It should be interesting tomorrow to see if this blade falls off the cliff after three shaves.

Thanks Doug! I've had this DE and brush longer than the majority of my gear. Desert Island choice for sure. For the dessert island I'd choose Key Lime or pecan pie

    August 23 Grand Blade Trials

    Razor - 1962 (H1) Gillette Slim (3)
    Blade - gillette-365-stainless.jpg (1)
Soap - Route 66 Sweeney Todd
    Brush - 30DC LE
    Post - Alum

After three very nice, in fact really super nice, shaves with the Gillette Stainless blade from Russia I chose to go to India and pick up the Gillette 365 Stainless. I haven't used this blade before, to the best of my recollection, so that adds to the interest factor. Gillette has made blades in both Russia and India for a long time. Normally the Russian blades get more love, so we'll see how this one compares.

I chose Route 66 Sweeney Todd for this blade. First brush up is the LE and, as usual, I had enough lather to wash several dogs after the shave. I, of course, only have snakes so no pets actually got washed.

The first pass on this blade told the tale of its sharpness. It isn't very, it seems. Now, that's not a bad thing of course. It just means it's not the sharpest blade out there. Once the angle is set it works well enough. You just can't expect a quick BBS with this blade and a mild razor. Two passes and a lot of touch up (should probably just say three passes) and I did have a decent enough DFS in. However, I also had one nick on my right jaw. Too much effort to get down to the DFS undoubtedly caused that. If the blade was a tad sharper I probably would have been bloodless. As it is, though, the alum was quiet except for the nick so it didn't raise any unnecessary irritation. Hard to complain other than it just took more work that I thought it would.

Upping it to 6 tomorrow may well solve most of the problems. We'll find that out tomorrow. In the meantime, shave on!

Learned something about myself thanks to using my Fatboy non stop. I figured mild razors would be my thing but I actually prefer it cranked up to around 6-7. Thanks to John Beeman and his kind donation of sample blades I've got awesome shaves from my Fatboy. VDH blades eat your heart out! And of course still in love with my Proraso red! :scared011:

Quick shave this morning as it was the first day of school for three kids in three different schools, and it was hectic. Plus I had to dress up today as I was invited to speak as part of a panel at a racial reconciliation prayer rally today. Two passes with the QShave and Tabac had me clean and smooth. The Stetson Cooling is really nice stuff, and the scent lasts a hot minute but isn't overwhelming. The rally was very encouraging. There was some "real talk" and a very positive atmosphere.

Glad to hear the rally went well. I'm beginning to think that prayer is the only way to bring the country back together.

It certainly is a huge factor. Choosing to spend time face to face with people not like us, listening empathetically, sharing honestly...it was a much needed time for me. Proximity determines practice.
