Stopped at a local antique store I love to frequent. Hadn't seen any shaving gear in a bit there so I was surprised to make a couple of minor but cool finds today. I saw the flare tip as soon as I walked in for a very fair price, especially considering it looks virtually unused. I love flare tips, and had recently PIF'd my backup to a friend. I found the mug in the basement and fell in love with it. Its an Avon Gentlemen's Regiment. The J&J hospital razor was in the mug so she threw it in. I'll try a shave with it just for the fun of it. I got the Valet, GEM 1912 and FWMM all cleaned up. I was so impressed at how they turned out I want to share before and after photos. Be forewarned that the following may cause heart palpitations, shortness of breath, uncontrolled mouth salivation and in rare circumstances, turning green with envy. I almost made it through the entire month, but this is replacing what I'm almost out of, so it doesn't count. Right?
Picked these up today at a little flea market. The GEM I just want to clean up and display it. Is there any way to find a date of manufacture? Paid 20 bucks for both.
No on the Gem. The MMOC was manufactured for a decade (30-40). Other than early gold models lacking the two bumps on the baseplate, AFAIK know the razor is undatable without a case to narrow it even just a little. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
Couldn't go wrong with these two 23mm badger brushes, with two styptic pencils included, for just under $6.00 shipped. And nice solid resin handles......... Forgot to mention, cards inside the boxes say they are from Frank Shaving.
Yes on the Blue Tip. Look under the base plate for a capital letter on the left, a number on the right. That's Year Code / quarter of the year. For that DE between "A" - 1955 & "F" - 1960. Save this chart full of info goodness.
I know they were 1 year but are the gold ones sought after? I was more excited about the Aristocrat with end caps lol. Sadly the cap is badly worn like most Aristocrats but now she gets her own Arsitocrat Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk
Not. Cheap. But. Sweet. You realize the corners Merkur cut in designing the Progress as soon as you handle the Mikron. The big tapered handle indicates version two of three, likely late 40s. 95g. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
