28 August 2017 Sparkle Pony Special Snowflake Adjustable August Blade Focus Shave

    Pre: The usual
    Razor: 1967 Gillette Slim Adjustable
    Blade: Timor Stainless Steel
    Brush: Rubberset 303
    Soap: Catie's Bubbles "Sunrise"
Post: Hot/cold water rinse, alum block, cold towelx2, Dominello Vitali Calming Post Shave Moisturizer
After Shave: Proraso Green Lozione Dopobarba

Last shave week I went once thru my brush lineup. Starting this week I'm going to spend a week with each brush. This week it's my '55 Rubberset 303.
For Menthol Monday, I broke out Catie's Bubbles "Sunrise". The 303 whipped into a great, slick, cushiony lather in about 90 seconds. The scent is outta sight and the Slim/Timor combo did its thing in 2.5 passes of shaving excellence!
Splashed on some Proraso Green A/S and a so/so Monday is off to a great start.

    Razor: Schick J1 Injector
    Blade: Schick Proline B (3)
    Brush: Razorock Plissoft 22
    Cream: KMF fragrance-free
    Post: Alum, Listerine, WH

The Proline B is definitely a sharp and smooth blade. Unfortunately, I really need to adjust my technique for this combo as, for the second day in a row, I almost nicked myself with an off-side G-slide. I'm trying something new with resting my razor and I think it may be making a positive difference. One way or another, I ended up with an effective BBS and no issues.

This morning, I came across an Eversharp Schick advertisement that I had never seen before:
    s-l1600.jpg
In 1957, Eversharp-Schick was definitely pushing hard to get these razors into peoples' hands. Not only was there an offer of a money-back satisfaction guarantee or 40 free blades for the purchaser, but apparently they were 100% underwriting the costs to the retailer. Talk about giving away the razor and making money on the blades!

BTW, I love the description of the new LONG model (what we call the J1)- "Styled for men who prefer the new feel and shaving ease of a long handle razor!" Was this really a concern in 1957?

Jim: What's the matter, Bob? You seem out of sorts.
Bob: It's my razor, Jim. The handle is so short that I just can't seem to get a good shave without a lot of work. If only someone made a razor with a long handle.

Thanks Clint. It was a Christmas gift last year. I only use it once or twice a month.

    Dorco Prime Platinum
    Stirling Boar
    Sudsy Soapery Lavender & Peppermint
    Witch Hazel
    M&L Florida Water

After using the Prime Platinum across a variety of razors this month, and can say with confidence that I ain't mad at 'em. They've given me excellent shaves and I would buy more. Can't speak to longevity yet, but I've gone as many as three shaves on one with no real deterioration of results.

After a month of rotation with my Omega 10049, the Stirling boar continues to shed with each shave. Only a couple at a time, but it's still there. It doesn't seem to affect performance, but it's an aggravation. The handle is fantastic, though.

Sudsy Soapery is really good soap. I have nothing negative to say about the soap itself, but I do wish they would use waterproof labels. The lavender peppermint could be called simply "Peppermint" as that is the scent that is overwhelmingly forward. Performance was flawless.

The '64 Flare Tip worked its charm. Nothing exciting, just a super speedy, smooth, drama free shave.

    Proraso Green
    Stirling Glacial Balm (neck)
    Booster Polar Ice (face)

Went with the Proraso Green for 'Menthol Monday' this morning. I got a very nice lather with it and the Tuxedo and had a fairly drama-free 3 pass shave. Did have a few weepers this morning. This is an aggressive razor, but I have avoided blood with it until this morning. I did Clint's 1/4 pass on my trouble spot (lower right side neck) and am near BBS.
A month or two ago, I started to develop a rash on my neck. It has come and gone (I even took Andrew's advice and used diaper cream with zinc oxide). I have never truly been able to figure out what it is or when it comes/goes. Well, it came back with a vengence this weekend while I was at the lake. It was very hot, and I think it is some form of heat rash. Anyway, I decided against an alcohol burn on it and went with the Glacial balm on my lower neck and the Polar Ice everywhere else.
    Have a great day, all!

It is built like a tank, goes from wild to mild and in between. The build quality is excellent and it is the heaviest adjustable I have ever tried. It is the best adjustable I have ever tried.

Well Crud...I was almost hoping you'd give it a negative report and I could go happily on my way with the satisfaction I could continue on without one. I know of two places in Europe that have them in stock, but at inflated prices. Now I need to decide if I gamble on them ever coming back in stock here in the states, or do I lay out the cash and order one from Europe...

Agreed. The labels would be much nicer if they were water proof, and there isn't much lavender in the Lavender & Peppermint. But in terms of performance? The SS has no peer in my opinion. There are a few right on it's heels though, but not quite up to the SS level of performance.

Neat photo, Jim! I'm sure you will be able to find something to pass the time!
    Nice Brush!

My Stirling boar is still shedding a hair or two every shave, but I've only got about 5 shaves on mine.
Cool photo Jason, I hope that rash fades quickly.
