Nothing wrong with sammitches. I had a turkey and swiss on potato bread for lunch today.

I do a lot of just butter on potato or cottage bread, with whatever meat and cheese. A far cry from great, but they stand up to all day in a lunchbox better. Haven't gotten food poisoning yet.

    Razor: Blackbird/Delta Razor Works/Blue
    Blade: Feather (5)
    Brush: El Druida Barberpole w/Manchurian
    Soap: Reef Point Soaps Tranquility
    A/S: Floid Blue
Bowl: Symmetrical Dottie Shaving Bowl Blue & Lt. Purple

This ends my 30 focus on my new double edge razors. Had some BBS shaves and a few near BBS with one that was just okay. That was user error.
Used some good soaps and brushes along with good blades. Thanks for letting me join the 30 DC.
SEptember will also be a good time as I plan to use SE razors all month.

I have always wanted a barber pole. Your last week has sealed the deal.

Wednesday evening August 30 - training my boar

    Rockwell 6s on plate #3 / Topaz Platinum ( 1 )
Semogue Owners Club cherry wood boar
    CRSW Juniper tallow soap
    Alum and Lucky Tiger

Tonight I started training my new SOC boar brush using the method recommended yesterday by Mike @entropy1049. I loaded the barely damp brush from the tub and lathered it up in the palm of my hand using paintbrush strokes and about four quick passes of the knot under a running tap. It worked up a good enough lather that I went ahead and used it to shave instead of just test lathering the SOC and using a familiar brush to shave.

The CRSW tallow soap works up a great creamy lather. Excellent postshave feel too. The Juniper tub smells sort of like smoky evergreen to me. It's a pleasant scent and one I will enjoy using. I don’t know that I like it enough to replace the tub when it runs out; at the rate I use up soap with all the tubs I have, I probably won't have to make that decision for several years anyway.

The shave was two passes to an error-free virtual BBS. The CRSW tallow soap followed by the Lucky Tiger aftershave tonic left my face feeling clean, soft, and well-hydrated.

    Overall a great mid-week shave.

    Adjustable (Arko) August!!!

    August 30 Grand Blade Trials

    Razor - 1962 (H1) Gillette Slim (6)
    Blade - [IMG] (2)
    Soap - Arko
Brush - Wolf Whiskers Custom Silvertip
    Post - Alum

Well, well, well. The second shave on the Rubie, Slim on 6, and I have to admit it was a very nice shave. I kept waiting to feel the blade drag, but nope - just a nice smooth shave all the way. Two passes. Touch ups. Ah, yeah, it won't give me a great finish I'm sure. But......it did. Near-BBS in fact. I love it when something like this happens because, once again, it proves out technique trumps tools. Of course, there is the irritation to think of. Even now my face feels like it might be irritated. Except for the fact the Alum was nearly silent. So what is that feeling? Not sure but I can't blame it on the blade. Maybe it's psycho-somatic from my previous run ins with the Rubie.

Whatever the past was, the present proves that this blade is indeed a fine choice as long as you know how to use it and, of course, in the right razor. We'll see what dialing the aggression to full tomorrow does to it, but for tonight I'm quite happy.

I promise, the final, final job report for those following. Sales jobs are a bit tricky. Largely because any job that includes selling on commission requires some selling to get the salesman to take it. While I had accepted the job yesterday, with the plan to resign today from my current job, there was still something nagging at the back of my mind. Couldn't put my finger on it so I just figured I was being overly cautious. After all, I'm pretty happy where I am but this just seemed like a step up and a better opportunity. Well, I found the flaw in the plan today as I went over the commission plan one more time. Yep, the sales pitch was a bit hyped and the chance of any real increase in pay was, well, just a chance. And not a good one given all of the realities. No reason to take a risk and potentially move backwards. So, I'm staying put. Good thing I'm a sales guy and know how far to trust people trying to sell me. Which is, not too far. Anyway, thanks for your support and I'll bore you no longer.

September thread should be going up shortly for you early birds.

    August wrap-up:

    Luxor Pro shavette
    Voskhod
    Stirling Boar
    Arko
    Clubman Citrus Musk

The Arko has been calling me all day, so I obliged. It didn't let me down. The Luxor Pro it's like a shavette with training wheels in that the blade holder covers the tips of the blades. Two passes resulted in smoothness. Just for fun and a nod to September I took the Eversharp Hussy for a spin for a little clean-up on the neck. Super results.

It is hardly boring, I hope it turns out the right way for you. You have certainly put a lot of thought into it. Now you just gotta roll.
