?

What is it about wet shaving that makes it worth while to you?

True. But for me, it goes directly to the "fun" part. Those who've been around since the beginning know that around the same time we formed this forum I was taking up SER shaving.

Now, like Chris, I like a DE shave when I'm in a hurry, and it came in handy on the road. I got better quality shaves than anything I had used before, like an electric mower or the multi-bladed manglers.

Raf and Mike Sandoval always get a chuckle out of the fact that I was just going to "try" SER shaving and now after six months, I am in full-blown SERAD and totally addicted. It brought me to another level still, and I love the whole experience, from the stropping and honing and maintenance, to the skill set it takes to use a SER. But either way, the quality's there, and the fun never stops. Ultimately, I could go back to the cartridge and get the job done. But, hell no! I'm enjoying the ride!

truth be told, when i get my str8s i have no flippin clue how im going to react to it, or how they are going to play into my daily routine... i know if at all i can help it, id like to keep str8 shaving to no more than 2 or 3 times a week... simply to keep maintenence down...

You keep thinkin' that, Skippy! :rofl Then there are those of us who keep a bunch of 'em around so that you can just rotate them and not have to hone very often. ;)

But seriously, once you get the routine down, the maintenance really isn't an issue. Stropping can be done while you prep your face and soak your brush. Honing or touching up on a paddle strop I do in the evenings while I'm on here.

I have my technique down to where I can get up at about my normal time in the mornings and get in a three pass str8 shave in twenty minutes, including stropping and an against-the-grain pass.

Not to split hairs but can't the terms SER referr to a straight edge as well as a single edge safety razor. So, shouldn't another acronym be coined for this?

True. A lot of times we will use STR8 to denote a Straight Edged Razor. Since Single Edged Razors are not discussed very often SER has become interchangeable with STR8. We might say GEM or Everready or Keen Cutter to specifically talk about a Single Edged Razor.

im actually suprised people still use the single edges... aside from head placemen/angle, what could possibly be the advantage of one edge?

Have you ever used a Schick Injector?

That counts as a Single edge and let me tell ya, good razors.

no never used a single edge... i would just think it to be less economical... harder to find blades, blades are more expensive, etc... the shave would probably be about the same as a DE i would assume, but i would also assume the lifespan of the blade (having only 1 side to dull) would be cut in half...

ok, ok I never really under stood exactly how much fun this could be until I met my Super Speeds. They have made this all a real blast every morning.

Schick Injector blades last me a week.

Pick up 7 for 4 dollars.

    Shave is still pretty good.

That's a tad on the high side. I tend to get my double edge blades for $.15 each.

Don't know if the poll still works but someone said they'd like "to be entertained". This seemed to fit the bill.

The poll may have closed a decade ago, but I'll do a post-game commentary: I'd have gone with quality over fun.
