The PTFE's are the only ones I would use anymore. Maybe there is a TTT in there, but for me, life is too short. I can sharpen my own blades on rocks now.
Terrific synopsis! I am thinking about giving Stirling Gentleman another try. I only tried it out the splash on the back of my hand....the scent description sounds like one that I would really enjoy. It may need another shot. Ozark Mountain is tremendous! I had a sample of both soap and aftershave and loved them both. Wife approved as well! It reminds me of the holidays and Christmas-time. @clint64 - The Stirling samples last a long time and are inexpensive. Grab a sample of Port au Prince and see what you think.
The Gentleman REALLY needs a bit to dry down. My wife says it smells like gasoline out of the bottle. But a while later, she is all over it. I tend to agree. It is strong right from the bottle. The soap has none of that, so in @clint64 's case, if he tried the soap it is a moot point.
Thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed response. I started shaving with a DE on Labor Day 2014 with a 34c, TOBS Sandalwood Cream and an Omega Pro 49. After joining TSD and reading all the positive reviews I placed an order with Stirling for the Vanilla Sandalwood and Sharp Dressed Man. Loved the VS not the SDM. Even back in 2014 the performance was great but the ingredients didn't quite match the competition. (Very Few Essential Oils etc). I actually prefer straightforward scents over complex scents. That is one of the reasons I like Mystic Water soaps. Michelle's scents are straightforward without being complex for the sake of complexity. Thank you both I will order a sample of Port au Prince and Margaritas in the Arctic. If I like the scents I can easily see myself picking up the Port au Prince aftershave. Thank you Jared for the tip.
Okay, don't repeat this..... I had SDM a long time ago too. I thought it was pretty okay. Maybe not my thing overall, but good. And I know this is like an Arko urinal puck anecdote, but one day my daughter (13-14 at the time) asks me why my new "shave junk" smells like carpet cleaner. I tell her to be quiet and go clean her room or some such. So I ask my wife, who had previously given me a thumbs up on it. She sniffs, kind of wrinkles her nose, and goes, "she's right." Goes to the hall closet, and gets a bottle of Resolve spot cleaner. By God, she ruined that scent for everyone, for good, right there. But don't say anything. My daughter is really good at ruining scents. I could tell you a story about a Chiseled Face Soap that actually smells like porta biff, but I hate to ruin it for anyone.
Too funny. My wife and girls are capable of ruining my opinion of shave soaps, aftershaves, clothes, etc. Where would I be without them.
Before long I plan to break out something I haven't used in a loooong time....my Rise Shaving Gel tube..the gel is invisible to the face, but it gets the job done.
Chiseled Face Midnight Stag....smells like gasoline out of the bottle...smells like gasoline all day. Like I mentioned to you the other evening, there are elements of that scent I want to like. But....
Thanks, Jim. Fire closest to town (only 5 miles or so) is apparently contained. The one about 12 miles away in the other direction is over 400 hectares and getting worse. It pales compared to what you are dealing with. How are you doing there?
I'm glad these points came up. I tried three different GEM SE's, and two different SE blades. Didn't give them a 30 trial because I found the experience unpleasant. Traded them off and haven't looked back. Might give em another shot one year, but I have too many DE & Schick that I do like to frustrate myself on an aesthetically pleasing torture device.
