Kevin, if you recall I used to have this one: An OK shaver. But the Special No. 1 in the background of this pic shaved circles around the Lifetime: Funny, but in this case, the kill was exceeded by the thrill of the chase. But one can only imagine the adrenaline rush of looking into a dusty case in some old antique shop and seeing a pristine Lifetime...with like a $5.00 price tag hanging from it .
Mike, the $5 Lifetime seems like an okay deal...did you haggle the seller down to $3? I don't doubt there are better shavers out there than the DDLT, but the rarity of them obviously contributes to the appeal. Same applies to those Gillette toggles.
Lol, I wish I'd only paid that for the DDLT! Though in the end it sold for what I paid for it, and I got a little enjoyment out of it. And I agree, I'd rather shave with an old J-West or Gillette Slim, but would much rather find in the wild a W&B Ottoman Egyptian or a bottom dial Fat Boy. And though pertinent, not necessarily for the value factor; more so for the joy of the find.
Three piece Rotbart mond. Only RFB that I dont have. I have two piece Rotbart RFB but this slips me for a years
And that's the same as I was thinking. The only place that I have found antique razors is way out of line on pricing, mainly due to condition. $89 for a rusty no name straight, and the lowest price on a de or sr Is $45. Probably why the stock never changes.
Thanks to @Jorvaljr , I am getting a '46 Milord, the gold version of the Ranger Tech. I am so excited to get it.
There you go! I've suggested it to some to pick up a 41 Milord when they wanted a 41 Ranger Tech. They were made in the same factory on the same machine at the same time just plated differently.
This was my grandpa's razor. Had it as a bath toy. Wish I had it now! Sent from my ONEPLUS A5000 using Tapatalk
I don't have any more grails as far as razors I want to own; the ones I really wanted I've either tried or now have. But there are several I'd be curious to try (Monobilt, Sticky, R41, etc).
I did a shave with the Gibbs Personna Adjustable clone. It was fantastic! I used a Dorco DE blade, fitted by pressing the cap. I was very slightly crooked, but that didn't seem to be a problem. Next I'll try trimming the tabs off so I can align it. I haven't gotten around to attempting to fix my Personna. Maybe this weekend.
I'd take it easy on the sauce while shaving, somebody could get hurt. I wasn't sure which razor you were describing as the clone, but the design was a Gibbs French patent, 1935. Personna Precision was early 1950s issue (note the Zipak dispenser, patent 1949). The bottom ad is dated October 1953. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
